CFL Picks Week 5
CFL Football Games This Week
Week 4 CFL action saw the favorites and pups go 2-2 against the spread while chalk sides were 3-1 straight up. Winnipeg got back on track and the BC Lions joined the Blue Bombers as favorites that won and covered. Edmonton posted a slim 23-21 win over Ottawa but failed to beat the +4.5 ATS line. Calgary was the lone favorite to lose on both sides as the Stampeders dropped a 30-23 match in Montreal to the Alouettes. Game totals were up (58, 53, 44 and 67) during a high scoring week.
Adding to the CFL Week 5 scheduling strangeness, there isn’t a doubleheader this week as the five contests are spread out over five nights. Undefeated Edmonton hits the road for a game vs winless Hamilton at 7:30 PM ET on July 20. Late games are up next as Winnipeg visits BC at 10:00 PM ET on July 21 and the always wild and crazy Saskatchewan vs Calgary rivalry re-fires in the Stampede City at 9:00 PM ET on July 22. Ottawa is in Toronto, at 7:30 PM ET, for a rare Monday night match.
CFL Predictions Today and Week 4 Review
Rebounding from a “mostly-feathers” Week 3 – we went 3-1 ATS and SU with our Week 4 picks. Slightly nervous about Toronto’s 22-20 lead at halftime, Winnipeg outscored the Argos 13-3 in the second half to cover the -3 ATS line. Calgary continues to confuse us as the Alouettes 30-23 win was our lone loss. We predicted a close Ottawa @ Edmonton match and that panned out as the Eskimos won 23-21. Our week closed on a winning note when the Lions mauled the Tiger-Cats 41-26 in Vancouver. Week 4 results moved us to 10-5-1 (SU) and 8-8-0 (ATS) on the season to date.
- Montreal at Ottawa Pick: Alouettes +5 (-110) ATS at William Hill
Although the CFL schedule is long, and their East cohorts are just as bad as they are, Ottawa needs to pick up the pace in order to defend their 2016 Grey Cup title. The road to repeat does not get any easier as the Redblacks (0-3-1) hook up with a Montreal squad that just beat CFL Championship favorite Calgary to open Week 5. The Alouettes (2-2-0) are allowing 21 PPG on defense and their offense is starting to show signs of life. Ottawa has scored 29 PPG but their defense is allowing 31 PPG. Sensing a close contest here – we like the Alouettes +5 (-110) ATS price at William Hill.
Final Score: Ottawa Redblacks 24-19 (PUSH) No ML Pick Stated
- Edmonton at Hamilton Pick: Eskimos -3 (-110) ATS at Bet365
First in the Wild West, and the lone undefeated CFL squad, Edmonton (3-0-0) heads east to battle winless Hamilton (0-3-0) at Tim Hortons Field on Friday night. The Eskimos have risen above some key early season injuries while the Tiger-Cats rank dead last overall in total points, passing yards and rushing yards. The clawless tabbies are also last in total yards allowed on defense. After a 37-31 loss at home, the Eskimos won a pair of three point battles in Hamilton last season – including a victory in the East CFL Semifinal playoff game. Lay the -3 (-110) line at Bet365 and align with Edmonton.
Final Score: Edmonton Eskimos 31-28 (PUSH)
- Winnipeg at BC Pick: Blue Bombers +4.5 -(110) ATS at SportsInteraction
After four losses vs Winnipeg, the last three by three points or less, BC edged the Bombers 32-31 in the West Semifinal last year. The Leo’s are back at BC Place after a 3-0 run through the East – by a combined 92-57 count. Following late game heroics, during wins over Toronto and Montreal, BC put Hamilton away early last week as they were up 33-15 after three quarters. Replacing injured starter Jonathon Jennings, QB Travis Lulay led the attack with 436 yards and three TD. Expecting a close BC win, take the +4.5 (-110) ATS price at SportsInteraction and back the Blue Bombers.
Final Score: British Columbia Lions 45-42
- Saskatchewan at Calgary Pick: Roughriders +10 (-110) ATS at Bodog
One of the best CFL rivalries re-fires when Saskatchewan rolls into Calgary on Saturday. Following their first win of the season, a 37-20 thrashing of the Tiger-Cats in Week 3, the Roughriders (1-2-0) were on a BYE last week. On the other side of the coin, the Stampeders (2-1-1) suffered their first loss of the year as they dropped a 30-23 decision in Montreal. The Stamps have stomped the ‘Riders by a 201-126 combined count while winning six straight matches. That said, the +10 (-110) Bodog line seems a tad too high so we are sailing with Saskatchewan in this game at McMahon Stadium.
Final Score: Calgary Stampeders 27-10
- Ottawa at Toronto Pick: Argonauts -2 (-115) ATS at William Hill
Ottawa survived a Montreal rally to post their first win of the season on Wednesday. The Redblacks forced four turnovers, and stopped the Alouettes inside the ten with under two-minutes left in the game, to score a 24-19 victory. Ottawa now makes the short trip to Toronto to play the Argonauts who have enjoyed a week of rest. Toronto played twice during the five-game week the previous three years and went 1-2 in the second match. The Argos won 26-25 in Ottawa during Week 3 action. Taking the fresher team, we are laying the Argos short -2 (-115) ATS price at William Hill.
Final Score: Toronto Argonauts 27-24
