The coronavirus has caused the world to pause in order to prevent the spread of this novel virus. Bet365 CEO Denise Coates has pledged 11 million euros to fight against the catastrophic effects of COVID-19. She joins other industry leaders to pitch in to help reduce the impact of the pandemic that continues to grip the globe.
Bet365 Boss Places a Bet On Beating Coronavirus
Denise Coates joined in the fight to defeat the coronavirus with a massive donation of 11 million Euro to the University Hospitals of North Midlands charity through her own foundation. The donation will help to support patients and staff affected by the rapid spread of the coronavirus. This includes investments in technology to improve research efforts and communications between hospital staff, researchers and patients.
The donation will be used for a wide variety of community initiatives, including mental health, social care, and other partnerships to help recovery efforts. Denise joins a variety of business titans who have donated to efforts that will help the public reduce the impact of the virus. During these unprecedented times, governments, private businesses, and the general public have teamed up in a variety of ways to avoid the worst possible scenario of a pandemic.
Who is Denise Coates?
Denise started with a business in a portable cabin and grew it to one of the biggest sports betting empires in the world. She’s the highest-paid chief executive of any company, completely shattering the glass ceiling at the highest level. Coates has held on to majority ownership of Bet365 as the co-founder, responsible for all the decision-making that brought the company to its current status.
She’s the daughter of Peter Coates, a businessman who built a restaurant franchise and took over Stoke City F.C. as the majority owner in 1989. As the co-founder of Bet365, Peter leveraged his prior business success and experience across multiple industries to open the window of opportunity for his family.
In addition to her donation to fight COVID-19, her Denise Coates Foundation has donated more than 100 million pounds to various UK charities. She’s considered one of the most influential business people in the U.K., and one of the top businesswomen in the world. In 2012, she was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and received an honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University.
The Rise of Bet365
A sharp increase in popularity within the sphere of online betting turned out to be a lot more sustainable than many suspected. In the year 2000, Denise Coates put together a deal for financing that secured the first round of investment in her online betting shop. A loan of 15 million pounds from the RBS, backed by her father’s existing betting shop assets, would be the beginning of a new major player in the industry.
This was sufficient to develop a leading-edge sports betting platform that would serve as the base for online operations. She was also able to invest in a trading team that helped to facilitate the launch of the new platform in March 2001. After a few short years, Bet365’s website was successful enough for the company to undertake its next major move: a sell-off of their brick and mortar betting shops to Coral in 2005.
Instead of traditional betting shops, the company would focus exclusively on digital operations. The 40 million pounds they collected for the sale was more than enough to pay off the loan that launched the new site.
Over the proceeding years, Bet365 would grow to the point where they would accept 52.56 billion pounds of wagers in 2018.
As of 2019, Bet365 employs more than 4,600 staff members, collecting 2.9 billion pounds in revenue. In terms of traffic, the site ranks top 200 in the world, an incredible accomplishment in its own right.
Bet365 At the Top of the Industry
Certainly, the numbers bear witness to the popularity and smooth services offered by Bet365. However, industry insiders have also noted the quality of the service provided by the company. For the sixth straight year, Bet365 was named the Sportsbook of the Year at SBC Gaming. More than 40 judges ascertain the best of the best in the industry every year, which makes this particular streak that much more impressive.
Prior to this run, the eGaming Review magazine listed Bet365 at the peak of their top 50 list of influential gaming sites from 2010 to 2013. As such, the site has been lauded in one way or another for the entire decade. Few companies can boast this type of success story in any type of industry.
One of the biggest sponsor deals struck by Bet365 and the Coates family involves a close relationship with Stoke City F.C. Considering the fact that the company is headquartered in Stoke City, this arrangement was a natural development in the history of Bet365. The arrangement started with the brand printed on the front of the club’s kits and evolved into a lengthy stadium naming deal.
This isn’t the only deal signed by Bet365. They plastered their brand across a couple of Bulgarian sides in 2016 as the primary jersey sponsor for Slavia Sofia and Ludogorets Razgrad. Impressively, a total of ten teams from La Liga agreed to have Bet365 sponsorships on their websites, stadium, social media, and team buses. This was referred to as a “colonization” by the Spanish newspaper El Economista.
