Bet365 Boss Places a Bet On Beating Coronavirus
Denise Coates joined in the fight to defeat the coronavirus with a massive donation of 11 million Euro to the University Hospitals of North Midlands charity through her own foundation. The donation will help to support patients and staff affected by the rapid spread of the coronavirus. This includes investments in technology to improve research efforts and communications between hospital staff, researchers and patients.
The donation will be used for a wide variety of community initiatives, including mental health, social care, and other partnerships to help recovery efforts. Denise joins a variety of business titans who have donated to efforts that will help the public reduce the impact of the virus. During these unprecedented times, governments, private businesses, and the general public have teamed up in a variety of ways to avoid the worst possible scenario of a pandemic.
Who is Denise Coates?
Denise started with a business in a portable cabin and grew it to one of the biggest sports betting empires in the world. She’s the highest-paid chief executive of any company, completely shattering the glass ceiling at the highest level. Coates has held on to majority ownership of Bet365 as the co-founder, responsible for all the decision-making that brought the company to its current status.
She’s the daughter of Peter Coates, a businessman who built a restaurant franchise and took over Stoke City F.C. as the majority owner in 1989. As the co-founder of Bet365, Peter leveraged his prior business success and experience across multiple industries to open the window of opportunity for his family.
In addition to her donation to fight COVID-19, her Denise Coates Foundation has donated more than 100 million pounds to various UK charities. She’s considered one of the most influential business people in the U.K., and one of the top businesswomen in the world. In 2012, she was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and received an honorary doctorate from Staffordshire University.
The Rise of Bet365
A sharp increase in popularity within the sphere of online betting turned out to be a lot more sustainable than many suspected. In the year 2000, Denise Coates put together a deal for financing that secured the first round of investment in her online betting shop. A loan of 15 million pounds from the RBS, backed by her father’s existing betting shop assets, would be the beginning of a new major player in the industry.
This was sufficient to develop a leading-edge sports betting platform that would serve as the base for online operations. She was also able to invest in a trading team that helped to facilitate the launch of the new platform in March 2001.
