Washington vs Carolina: Capitals Look to Blow Past the Hurricanes

Washington vs Carolina: Capitals Look to Blow Past the Hurricanes
Teams playing their final game, prior to Christmas break, clash as Carolina hosts Washington in the National Hockey League action tonight. The Caps continue to cruise along as the most complete team in the NHL while the Hurricanes still blow as they are just two points clear of the NHL basement. This NHL Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division action is slated for 7:00 PM ET on December 21, 2015, at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. Time for some Capital gains.

Washington Capitals: Opening a gap in the Eastern Conference

Aiming for their second six-game winning streak this season, Washington rolls into Carolina as the hottest team in hockey as they have won five in a row for the third time this year. The Capitals seemed to toy with New York last night as they spotted the Rangers a 3-1 first period before storming back with six unanswered goals during a 7-3 victory at Madison Square Garden. Eleven players had at least one point and six Capitals contributed a goal, veteran Justin Williams had two, during the Caps bashing of the Blueshirts. Washington is seven points up on Montreal in the East.

Carolina Hurricanes: Barely a breeze as the ‘Canes currently hover over the NHL cellar

Following a dismal 8-12-4 season start, that included a 3-6-4 skid in November, Carolina has been decent lately as the Hurricanes are 5-3-1 during December. Carolina (13-15-5) just two points up on Toronto and Columbus who currently share the Eastern Conference basement. The Hurricanes playoff hopes are already in serious jeopardy as they are eight points behind Ottawa who currently hold the final Wild Card spot in the East. Lackluster on offense early in the season, the ‘Canes have picked up the pace has they have scored five goals during four of their last seven games.

Washington vs Carolina NHL Call: One of the more reliable NHL backups gets the call for the Capitals here as Philipp Grubaure (3-2 GAA 2.53) gives Braden Holtby a break in net tonight. A Hurricane through thick and thin, Cam Ward (10-9-3 GAA 2.58) makes his 524th career start for Carolina. Washington playing on back-to-back nights with travel is a slight concern here. That said, with four days off following this match, plus a winning streak on the line, we expect Alex Ovechkin & Crew will be raring and ready to go for this contest. The Caps recorded a 4-1 home win over ‘Canes back on October 18 and they have won five of the last six meetings. Cruise with the Capitals and a 500 unit wager on the money line odds posted on the NHL betting board at Bodog.
