Howdy! Welcome to a brand new go-around of The Viral Roundup. We’re your daily one-stop shop for all the big news, big buzz and big developments headlining a new day in the world of sports. In today’s edition: A teammate’s punch lands Geno Smith on the shelf, Drew Willy’s in need of repairs and Nick Young pops up on Lip Sync Battle.

Um, so the New York Jets might be in the market to spring for some teambuilding exercises. Starting QB Geno Smith was “sucker-punched” (according to coach Todd Bowles) by teammate Ikemefuna “I.K.” Enemkpali in a locker room fight yesterday and will be out with a broken jaw for 6-10 weeks. (In case you’re wondering, Enemkpali has already been cut.) This means Ryan Fitzpatrick rises in the depth chart and will be taking snaps for the club when the season begins. Last we checked, the Jets were peggged as a 50/1 Super Bowl shot.

Nick Young isn’t a spectacular basketball player, but at least he’s a servicable lip sync guy. Swaggy P went toe-to-toe with future wife Iggy Azalea on Lip Sync Battle and elected to roll with Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” as one of his weapons of choice. The performance could have used a Tawny Kitaen cameo, but what can you do? Here’s Nick Young rocking out in all its lip synced glory.
Did You Know?
– All 15 home teams came out victorious in MLB play on Tuesday, a feat that’s never been accomplished before with that many teams. The marquee matchup of those contests was an NL Central showdown between the Cards and Bucs where St. Louis (the -150 moneyline home favourite) came out on top 4-3. Carlos Martinez provided eight strong innings on the mound for the Cardinals and they hold a six game lead in the division standings.
– It’s the news that the Blue Bombers did not want to hear. Their starting QB Drew Willy is going to be out of the lineup for at least 6-8 weeks to deal with a tibial plateau fracture and a partial PCL tear. He suffered the injury on Sunday when Winnipeg got creamed by Hamilton 38-8. Willy’s thrown for 1,434 yards and 8 TDs in 2015 and will have Brian Brohm or Robert Marve fill in for him on Friday at home versus the Toronto Argonauts.
– If everything goes according to plan, the highly anticipated Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor bout will happen before the end of 2015. UFC president Dana White has announced that the fight will be the marquee attraction at UFC 194 on December 12. The featherweight bout will unify the regular and interim titles. The two fighters were scheduled to face off in the Octagon this summer, but a rib injury during training had Aldo off the card and replaced by Chad Mendes. McGregor would defeat Mendes in electifying fashion.
