The Viral Roundup – Capped Edition

The Viral Roundup – Capped Edition
Washington continues their tear at the expense of Carolina, San Antonio notches their sixth straight W and the NFL hands out some discipline that leaves the Giants readjusting. Here's the sparkling fresh world of sports you're waking up to on December 22, 2015.

Did You Hear?

It wasn’t an easy W, but the Capitals are rolling on a six game win streak after a tough bout in Carolina. Washington (-120 road favourites) edged Carolina 2-1 over sixty minutes with Michael Latta and Jason Chimera going on the score sheet for the Capitals. Washington has an impressive hold on the Metro divsion lead with a nine point cushion over the Islanders.

Did You See?

We’re in the thick of year-end recap season and sports is far from immune for a weakness for retrospective. SB Nation’s Matt Ufford has knocked out a “2015 Year In Sports” lookback that peers back in the rear-view at the year’s slate of athletic talking points with a healthy dash of snark thrown in for good measure.

Did You Know?

– The Spurs improved to six consecutive wins last night thanks to a 106-92 thumping of the visiting Pacers. San Antonio (a nine point favourite heading into action) now improve to 16-0 at home courtesy of strong performances from Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker. The Spurs sit only three games back of Golden State for top spot in the Western Conference.

– Drew Brees threw for 341 yards on Monday night but that wasn’t enough to propel New Orleans to victory at home against Detroit. The Lions, a two-and-a-half point underdog, outpaced the Saints 35-27 with Matt Stafford racking up 3 TDs in the process. Both teams now sit at 5-9 with two weeks remaining on the season.

– Is Odell Beckham Jr. going to be out for for New York’s crucial Week 16 showdown with the Vikings? That was the main question in the aftermath of Week 15. The Giants wideout appeared to be in line for a one game suspension according to reports from ESPN. The superstar WR was heavily criticized for his actions in Sunday’s 38-35 win over the Panthers that included a vicious head shot on CB Josh Norman after the whistle. Later on Monday, news broke that the suspension would be a go. The G-Men are slated as a four point underdog in their Sunday Night Football tilt in Minnesota.

– The Patriots are set to plug a veteran running back into their banged-up offense. New England have reportedly sorted out a deal that will provide 32-year-old rusher Steven Jackson with a single year pact. LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis are both out with injuries and that will have the Pats (who can clinch home field advantage with a win in Week 16) relying on the three-time Pro Bowler best known for his glory days with the St. Louis Rams. New England are favoured by a field goal on the road versus the Jets this Sunday.
