Carolina escaped a monumental collapse to hit 14-0 on the season. The Panthers (a five point road favourite) gave up a 28 point lead on the Giants, but managed to emerge with a 38-35 victory thanks to a game-winning 43-yard field goal from Graham Gano. Cam Newton scored 5 TDs for the Panthers while his Giants counterpart Eli Manning threw for 4 scores. New York’s loss coupled with Washington’s 35-25 thumping of Buffalo drops the Giants to a game back in the NFC East.

Rafael dos Anjos helped the UFC end 2015 in style with a big finish in the main event of Fox’s Saturday Fight Night card. The defending lightweight champ (a -200 favourite going in) unleashed a series of strikes that defeated challenger Donald Cerrone with a TKO stoppage 66 seconds in to the first round. It was a performance that clocked in as the fastest stoppage in the title’s history. We have some of the devastation below in video form. Speaking of Rafael dos Anjos, he called brash featherweight champ Conor McGregor out for a future challenge after the fight. McGregor’s been openly mulling entering a new weight division and dos Anjos seemed accommodating for such a battle.

Did You Know?

– History has been made in Indianapolis and it’s a feat Colts fans do not like. For the first time in their history, Houston topped Indy in Indy. The Texans (a two point road underdog) topped Indianapolis 16-10 with Brandon Weeden throwing for 105 yards and a TD in relief. Down 10-3 at the half, Houston overcame the injury exit of starting pivot T.J. Yates and now sit at the peak of the AFC South standings.

– The Steelers continue their roll as the playoffs creep on the horizon. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 3 TDs (plus two picks) to lead Pittsburgh to a 34-27 victory over the AFC West leading Broncos. (The Steelers were favoured by seven going in.) Antonio Brown racked up 189 yards receiving with two TD catches for Pittsburgh who are holding onto a Wild Card spot in the conference.

– The Heat are now a mighty 12-5 in their home building. Miami (a five point favourite) topped Portland 116-109 in matinee play and maintain their lead in the Southeast. Chris Bosh scored 29 points over 31 minutes in the win, while Trail Blazer Damian Lillard put 32 point on the board in a losing cause.

– The Caps lit up the Rangers on the ice on Sunday. Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie were among the Washington scorers when the Capitals throttled the Rangers 7-3. The victory marks the club’s fifth straight W and adds to the three game losing streak experienced by the Blueshirts. The Capitals now hold an impressive eight point lead in the Metro.
