The Viral Roundup – The Lonely Island Edition

The Viral Roundup – The Lonely Island Edition
The Isles topple the Avs, Golden State stays flawless and the Habs get some unwelcome injury news. Here's the minty fresh world of sports you're waking up to on December 1, 2015.

Did You Hear?

The Isles played inhospitable hosts to the Avalanche on Monday night. New York (a -160 home favourite) lit the lamp at a steady enough clip to topple Colorado 5-3 in Brooklyn. Thomas Greiss stopped 25 shots and Cal Clutterbuck notched his sixth marker of the year in front of the home crowd while Jaroma Iginla scored his eighth of the season in a losing cause. The win plunks the Isles six points back of the Rangers for top spot in the Metro.

Did You See?

Basketball fans across the globe are still processing the news that Kobe Bryant is on his retirement tour. This development has led to a lot of reminiscing and we’re not above getting in on the action. Check out this amazing through-the-legs dunk from a 17-year-old Kobe Bryant from his high school days. Speaking of Kobe, oddsmakers aren’t exactly bullish on the prospect of the hoops great capping off his final year with a championship ring. Los Angeles (purple & gold edition) ranks as a massive 1000/1 longshot to win the 2015-16 title. Who do oddsmakers like? That’d be Golden State who have been given 3/2 odds by some thanks to their spectacular start to the year.

Did You Know?

– The Warriors have hit the 19-0 mark to start the season. Golden State entered Monday’s night road contest in Utah a -360 favourite and ended up squeaking by with a 106-103 victory. Steph Curry scored 26 points and provided five assists in the win, while Gordon Hayward put 24 on the scoreboard in a losing cause for the Jazz. Golden State can reach 20-0 tomorrow night in Charlotte.

– Gronk lives! Rob Gronkowski’s game-ending injury on Sunday night looked like it could have New England’s star tight end on the shelf for a huge stretch, but reports have it that Gronk may not miss as much time as previously thought. The NFL Network is reporting that Gronkowski may even be back in the lineup for this weekend’s Patriots/Eagles showdown. The Pats are currently favoured by 13.

– The Montreal Canadiens are preparing for another notable stretch without Carey Price between the pipes. The reigning Hart Trophy winner is going to miss six weeks or more with a lower body injury. The Habs netminder had previously missed some time with the ailment when he suffered it back in late October. The upside for Montreal is that rookie goalkeeper Mike Condon has been a quality substitute in 2015-16 going 8-2-3 with a 2.19 GAA. By the way, the Canadiens are considered a 15/2 shot to win the Stanley Cup this summer.
