The Viral Roundup – Owning Ohio Edition

The Viral Roundup – Owning Ohio Edition
Tyler Eifert snags 3 TDs in a Thursday night thrashing of Cleveland, the Lions are on the hunt for a new GM and Mike Babcock will coach Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. Here's the minty fresh world of sports you're waking up to on November 6, 2015.

Did You Hear?

The Bengals are a franchise best 8-0 on the year and their latest triumph was an absolute pummeling of state rival Cleveland. Cincy, a thirteen point home favourite, laid the smackdown on a hopeless Browns club with tight end Tyler Eifert catching three TD passes from Andy Dalton. Johnny Manziel was underwhelming but not disasterous filling in for injured starting QB Josh McCown. Johnny Football threw for 1 TD, no picks and 168 yards against the Bengals defense. Who do Cincinnati face next for a shot at 9-0 and the longest winning streak in team history? It’ll be the very beatable Texans who come to Cincy for Monday Night Football.

Did You See?

Things haven’t exactly been going great for Kobe Bryant this season. Come to think of it, things haven’t been going great for Kobe for a while. How bad have things gotten? Check out this oh so cold NBA Jam version of a Kobe “highlight” package where it’s just brick after brick after brick. By the way, the 0-4 Lakers are in Brooklyn tonight to face the winless Nets. Brooklyn’s favoured by four-and-a-half points.

Did You Know?

- The Detroit Lions have been a flaming wreck in 2015 and now the franchise’s GM is on the unemployment line. Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand both got the axe yesterday after the team started off the year at 1-7 following a playoff season. Lions owner Martha Ford said the decision was made because a change in leadership was necessary after the lousy start. Head coach Jim Caldwell was not chucked in this Detroit football overhaul. The team is in bye week mode at the moment and will return to action on November 15 in Green Bay.

- The Nashville Predators squeezed out a tight 3-2 road win on Thursday night, but Wild fans were more concerned about the loss of one of their superstars. Zach Parise was forced to leave the game after his first shift after contact with James Neal. It’s currently unclear when Parise will return. Nashville’s win (they were a -105 wager going in) snaps Minnesota’s home undefeated streak on the year and allows the Preds to get a valuable two points in the very crowded Central Division.

- Hockey Canada has tapped Mike Babcock as the man that will lead the nation to World Cup glory. Babcock, currently 2-8-2 on the year as he attempts to revive the lowly Leafs, comes in with a sparkling international hockey resumé. He was the man behind the bench for Canada’s 2010 and 2014 golden campaigns at the Olympics and we imagine his work with the Red Wings didn’t hurt his chances either. The tournament, the first since 2004, is scheduled to take place next September in Toronto.
