Today’s an incredibly busy day for sports and that includes the beginning of the 2015-16 NBA regular season. The planet’s premier basketball association offers up a slate of three games today, including a tilt between New Orleans and defending champs Golden State in Oakland. If you direct your attention to the Futures board, you’ll see that Golden State is listed as a +500 wager to earn back-to-back titles. Two teams are considered more likely champs by oddsmakers: Cleveland (+275) and San Antonio (+350). Least likely to win? Sacremento, Orlando, Denver, Charlotte and Philadelphia are all pegged as +25000 longshots. Let’s mark the start of the new season with a look at the best jams from the preseason.

– Game 1 of the World Series takes place tonight with New York Mets and Kansas City Royals doing battle at Kauffman Stadium. Which one of these two long suffering clubs will emerge with their first title since the 80s? Oddsmakers have elected not to cozy up to one franchise over the other for the full series with both sides listed as -110 shots to win it all. Tonight’s contest has a favourite, mind you. KC have been slotted as a -170 moneyline home favourite in Game 1. They’ll start Edinson Volquez and the Mets will counter with Matt Harvey on the mound.
– The Phillies have found their new GM. After a horrific 63-99 finish and the exit of former general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., the role has been handed to Angels assistant GM Matt Klentak. The move makes Klentak the team’s youngest GM ever at the age of 35.
– The Calgary Flames are still nursing a hangover from last season’s surprise run. Jaroslav Halak stopped all 29 Calgary shots sent his way to score the W in a 4-0 Islanders win. (The Isles were listed as a -220 favourite in the tilt.) Kyle Okposo and Cal Clutterbuck both notched markers in the win and New York moves up two points in the Metro division standings. The Islanders will aim for three in a row on Thursday when they play Carolina.
– Baylor recieved some terrible news about the health of their starting QB. Seth Russell is getting season ending neck surgery following an injury sustained in a win over Iowa State. This development could serve as a major blow to Baylor’s national title aspirations, especially with a difficult run of games on the horizon. Russell, who has thrown for over 2100 yards and connected for 29 TDs, will be replaced by freshman backup Jarrett Stidham. Baylor are considered an 11/2 shot to win the national title.
