The Dodgers continue to guard their NL West lead. Scott Van Slyke and Yasiel Puig both went yard as Los Angeles topped Cincinnati 7-4 in Ohio. The Dodgers were also fueled by a strong 6+ inning start from Brett Anderson. Los Angeles can sweep the series this afternoon and are pegged as the -180 moneyline road favourite. Cy Young candidate Zach Greinke takes to the mound for the Dodgers with the Reds countering with Anthony DeSclafani.

Did You See?

In the mood to see some insane dunks? That can be arranged. Feast your eyes on this instaclassic jam battle between Guy Dupuy and Jordan Kilganon. We’re talking about maneuvers that even an NBA Jam physics engine couldn’t dream up.

Did You Know?

– The Yankees were completely annihilated on Tuesday night, but they at least kept things relatively close on Wednesday. Houston (a +135 moneyline road underdog) followed up Tuesday’s 15-1 blowout with a 6-2 thumping of their New York hosts. DH Evan Gattis slugged two homers in the victory and starter Collin McHugh scored his 14th win of the season after 6+ innings on the mound. (The win also allowed Houston to top last season’s total number of Ws.) The Astros now head to Minnesota for a set against the Twins, while the Yanks try to get their playoff chase back on track in Atlanta.

– Poor Justin Verlander. Detroit’s star pitcher was one inning away from clinching his third career no-hitter, but Angels catcher Chris Iannetta busted it up in the ninth with a double. The consolation prize for Verlander and the Tigers? A 5-0 victory over the Halos with Verlander notching a one-hit complete game. The two teams square off again this afternoon with the over/under set at 9 runs. By the way, Tigers starting pitcher Shane Greene has been ruled out for the season with upcoming shoulder surgery taking him of the equation.

– Ohio State is facing a nasty piece of injury news. The defending national college football champs have lost wideout Noah Brown for the season due to a broken leg. Brown was in the running to replace graduated seniors Devin Brown and Evan Spencer in the Buckeyes offensive attack. At the moment, Ohio State is listed as a 13/5 shot to to repeat as the NCAA’s premier football titleholders. The Buckeyes start the season next Monday at Virginia Tech.

– The Barclays is set to tee off today. Rory McIlroy won’t be at the Plainfield Country Club this week, but there will be an abundance of other impressive competitors. Jordan Spieth is currently the favourite to win at 11/2 with Jason Day (10/1), Dustin Johnson (12/1) and Justin Rose (12/1) not far behind on the Futures board.
