It wasn’t even close. The Houston Astros (a -145 moneyline road favourite heading into Tuesday’s action) clobbered the New York Yankees 15-1 in The Bronx. Cy Young contender Dallas Keuchel tossed 9 Ks and gave up only 3 hits over 7 innings while Evan Gattis, Marwin Gonzalez and Carlos Gomez all went yard for Houston in this merciless beatdown. The AL West leading Astros have been shaky on the road in 2015, but now improve to a slightly better 25-36 away from their home park.

Missing the NBA? You’re not alone. We’re still pining for basketball to return, but at least there’s dunk compilations to ease this sting. The NBA released a video this week featuring their picks for the 100 best jams of the last season. We’re talking nearly 20 minutes of rim rattling action. Enjoy!
Did You Know?
– The Nats continue their chase of the Mets in the battle for the NL East pennant. Stephen Strasburg put in a strong six innings in an 8-3 dispatching of the Padres. Yunel Escobar went 2-3 with an RBI double and Ryan Zimmerman hit his 10th homer of the season in the Washington win. The two teams face off again tonight with the Nationals pegged as a strong -180 home favourite.
– Are the Pittsburgh Steelers interested in Michael Vick? Indeed they are. ESPN says the Steelers are in the market for a new quarterback with backup Bruce Gradkowski out of the lineup for three to four weeks with a dislocated finger and that scenario has brought the two parties together with Vick signing on in Steeltown. The 35-year-old QB spent 2014 with the New York Jets and has seen his completion percentage shrink over the past few seasons. Pittsburgh are currently pegged as a 20/1 shot to win the Super Bowl.
– The Calgary Flames have locked up defenceman Mark Giordano to a longtime deal. The new pact will see Giordano (who was a Norris Trophy candidate last year before suffering a season ending injury) stay with the club for six years with a $6.75 million per season salary coming his way. We’ll use this space to remind you that the Flames improved their blueline this year courtesy of a draft week deal with the Bruins that brought Dougie Hamilton to Calgary.
