Breathing room was in short supply for Sunday’s matinee tilt between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw looked like he might snap up his 11th win of the season thanks to a very strong 10 K eight inning outing, but a clutch RBI single from Marwin Gonzalez in the bottom of the ninth turned a possible 2-1 victory into a setting for extra innings. In the 10th, catcher Jason Castro hit a solo shot to give Houston the 3-2 win and a full-on sweep of their NL guests. Houston’s notched four walk-off wins over their last eight contests.

College football (finally) kicks off a new season next month and now’s the time to get caught up on all the uniform tweaks and revamps. As always, these fashion forays tend to be a mix of the ugly and the awesome with a healthy portion of wildly unnecessary. SB Nation has put together a guide showcasing some of the changes and we have it tucked below for you to watch and study. By the way, Ohio State’s pegged by oddsmakers as the 13/5 favourite to win the national title in 2016.
Did You Know?
- Packers fans got some miserable news over the weekend. Green Bay WR Jordy Nelson left Sunday’s preseason tilt versus Pittsburgh with an apparent knee injury. The initial diagnosis is a torn ACL with an MRI follow-up for further information. If things are as bad as they sound, Nelson could be done for the season. Upon hearing the injury news, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook changed Green Bay’s Super Bowl odds from 9-2 to 6-1.
- Veteran wideout and Pro Bowl regular Reggie Wayne is still unemployed, but it looks like a former arch-rival might be interested in his services. ESPN reports that Wayne has been visiting with the New England Patriots and will take a physical for the franchise. The 36-year-old has spent his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts and was not re-signed to the team after a disappointing injury impaired campaign in 2014. The Patriots are considered a 9/1 shot to repeat as Super Bowl champs, while Indianapolis is saddled with 15/2 title odds.
- The Los Angeles Kings have picked up a new veteran to play on their blueline. The club’s signed a $1.5 million deal to bring in Christian Ehrhoff for a single season’s work. Injuries preyed upon the German defenceman last season in Pittsburgh and his scoring output was a bit on he underwhelming side (14 points in 49 games), but he appears to be a strong value add at his price point. The Kings are still in a messy state of figuring out how to operate with Slava Voynov’s future uncertain.
