The Viral Roundup – Kane Under Investigation Edition

Good morning! Welcome to a special TGIF go-around of The Viral Roundup. We’re your daily one-stop shop for all the big news, big buzz and big developments headlining a new day in the world of sports. In today’s edition: Patrick Kane is the subject of a serious accusation, Michael Wacha’s on the mound for a Cincinnati blanking and Eddie Lacy climbs, saws and wields an axe as an amateur lumberjack athlete.

Did You Hear?

The Buffalo News reports that Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane has been accused of sexual assault and police are investigating the incident. Details have been sparse on the matter and police have indicated that they are not confirming or denying the alleged assault took place. At the moment, no charges have been laid and the Blackhawks say they are aware of the matter. In 2009, Kane was arrested in relation to an incident involving a Buffalo cab driver that led to the player pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.

Did You See?

Have you been unable to sleep because you’ve desperately wanted to know if Eddie Lacy has the skills to transition into the world of lumberjackdom? A new promotional video from Gatorade will hopefully help you sleep easier at night. The Green Bay Packers running back tries his hand at the world of lumberjack sports for the beverage giant. In the clip below you can see Lacy toss an axe, climb a tree and saw through some wood with a healthy dose of gusto. By the way, the Packers are pegged as a 5/1 Super Bowl contender for 2016.

Did You Know?

- Michael Wacha is now 13-4 on the season thanks to seven innings of shutout ball and help from the bullpen. The Cardinals (a -160 moneyline road favourite) blanked NL Central rival Cincinnati 3-0 in matinée action Thursday with Wacha holding the Reds to four hits durin his time on the mound. Tony Cruz and Kolten Wong provided the RBI singles for St. Louis who have had Cincy’s number of late. In their last 18 series versus the Reds, the Cards have won 15 of those sets.

- Star pitcher Zach Greinke was underwhelming on the mound on Thursday but he more than made up for his performance at the plate. The Dodgers Cy Young contender went 3-3 with a homer as Los Angeles topped Philadelphia 10-8. Greinke did get smacked around for seven runs over six innings, but he still emerged with the win and improves to 11-2 on the year.

- The Washington Nationals received some great news about a key member of their rotation. Stephen Strasburg will be activated from the disabled list and is scheduled to get the start on Saturday versus Colorado. Strasburg’s been out of the lineup for six weeks with an oblique injury. (By the way, the Nationals are pegged as an 8/1 shot to win the World Series.) In yesterday’s tilt with the Diamondbacks, Washington came out on top with an 8-3 win and sit 1.5 games back of the red hot New York Mets for the NL East lead.
