Did You Know?
- Michael Wacha is now 13-4 on the season thanks to seven innings of shutout ball and help from the bullpen. The Cardinals (a -160 moneyline road favourite) blanked NL Central rival Cincinnati 3-0 in matinée action Thursday with Wacha holding the Reds to four hits durin his time on the mound. Tony Cruz and Kolten Wong provided the RBI singles for St. Louis who have had Cincy’s number of late. In their last 18 series versus the Reds, the Cards have won 15 of those sets.
- Star pitcher Zach Greinke was underwhelming on the mound on Thursday but he more than made up for his performance at the plate. The Dodgers Cy Young contender went 3-3 with a homer as Los Angeles topped Philadelphia 10-8. Greinke did get smacked around for seven runs over six innings, but he still emerged with the win and improves to 11-2 on the year.
- The Washington Nationals received some great news about a key member of their rotation. Stephen Strasburg will be activated from the disabled list and is scheduled to get the start on Saturday versus Colorado. Strasburg’s been out of the lineup for six weeks with an oblique injury. (By the way, the Nationals are pegged as an 8/1 shot to win the World Series.) In yesterday’s tilt with the Diamondbacks, Washington came out on top with an 8-3 win and sit 1.5 games back of the red hot New York Mets for the NL East lead.
