Happy Monday! Welcome to a fresh new go-around of The Viral Roundup. We’re your daily one-stop shop for all the big news, big buzz and big developments headlining a new day in the world of sports. In today’s edition: The Jays top the Royals in a tense matinee clash, the Reds can’t get a run on the Bucs and Tony McDaniel is done in Seattle.

Did You Hear?

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons got tossed in a game that was all shades of intense at the Rogers Centre. Jays starter R.A. Dickey pitched a 2-hitter over 7 innings as Toronto (the -135 moneyline home favourite) topped the AL Central leading Royals 5-2. Chris Colabello knocked in a homer for the Jays and new additions Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Revere hit valuable RBIs in the 8th. Toronto will host Minnesota tomorrow afternoon to kick off a four game set, while Kansas City travels to Detroit to face the Tigers.

Did You See?

As expected, Ronda Rousey absolutely decimated Bethe Correia on Saturday night. Not only did the UFC Bantamweight Champ pummel her Brazilian opponent without mercy, she scored the KO 34 seconds into the fight. Here’s footage of the carnage.

After the fight, Rousey dedicated the fight to recently passed wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Did You Know?

– The Pirates were in no mood to play generous guests in Ohio. The Buccos trotted four different pitchers onto the mound (highlighted by a 7 inning start from Charlie Morton) to blank the Reds 3-0. Starling Marte brought two runners home courtesy of an RBI double and Neil Walker hit his 10th homer of season to provide the necessary run support. Pittsburgh now improves to 26-26 on the road and will return home to face the Cubs. Cincinatti’s next challenge comes from the visiting Cardinals dropping by tomorrow.

– The Astros continue to have a relatively steady grip on the top of the AL West standings. Houston (the -140 moneyline home favourite) scored a 4-1 interleague win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Sunday’s action. Starter Collin McHugh pitched seven strong innings for the ‘Stros and DH Evan Gattis went yard for the 17th time this season. Houston starts a set in Arlington versus the Rangers today and the Diamondbacks keep their road trip going with a vist to Washington D.C..

– Cap crunch cuts are a cruel business and in the Pacific Northwest a veteran defensive tackle is feeling the chop. The Seattle Seahawks (who just sorted out extensions with Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner) have elected to cut Tony McDaniel. The 30-year-old Tennessee alum started 29 of 32 games for the Seahawks in his two years with the club and will have to find work elsewhere. Oddsmakers have Seattle as a 13/2 wager to win the Super Bowl in 2016.
