Texas vs Los Angeles MLB American League West Action
Two squads headed in vastly different directions have our attention today as we preview and predict Major League Baseball American League West division action featuring Texas versus Los Angeles. The Angels have ascended to the top of the AL West standings while the Rangers sit dead last in the league. First pitch is slated for 8:05 PM ET on September 9, 2014, at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The Halos are the hottest team in the Majors.
Los Angeles Angels: Runaway American League West leaders
What a difference a month can make. Sitting four games behind the Oakland Athletics 30 days ago, Los Angeles now owns an eight game lead in the AL West. The Angels have won 20 of their last 26 games and are coming off a 12-3 thumping of the Indians in Cleveland yesterday. LHP Hector Santiago (4-7 ERA 3.46) gets the call for the Halos and he has allowed just seven earned runs over his last 27.2 innings pitched. Los Angeles has won five straight games and are mashing as they outscored their opponents by a combined 46-22 count in those contests.
Texas Rangers: Long season in the Lone Star State is nearing an end
Sitting with a 54-89 record, an injury riddled Texas squad can’t wait for the 2014 MLB season to end. The Rangers ended an eight game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Seattle on Sunday but they have averaged just 1.9 runs per game over their last nine contests. Pitching has been an issue for Texas all season as their pitching staff sports the second worst ERA (4.69) in the league. RHP Colby Lewis (9-12 ERA 5.42) has been one of the culprits as he as allowed 19 runs over his last 28 innings pitched. The Rangers won’t roll over but they are in tough here.
