NHL Atlantic Division Battle in Beantown Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers

NHL Atlantic Division Battle in Beantown Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers
National Hockey League action hits the ice early today as the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers meet for a matinee matchup in Beantown. Boston is clinging to the final Eastern Conference Wild Card playoff position while Florida is just one point behind. This NHL Atlantic Division showdown is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET on December 12, 2015, at TD Garden Arena in Boston, MA. Playing much better at home recently - we see the Bears containing the Cats in this contest.

Boston Bruins: Battling hard and finding ways to earn points

Earning at least one point in nine of their last ten games, Boston is right in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race despite being in a previously perceived “rebuilding” year. Following a five game winning streak to close out November, the Bruins are 2-1-2 in December and they’re fresh off a 3-1 road win over archrival Montreal on Wednesday. Boston is one of the top scoring teams in the NHL as their 3.22 goals per game average is second behind the 3.48 GPG posted by Dallas. This is the second of four meeting this season after Boston earned a 3-1 victory in Florida on October 30.

Florida Panthers: Quietly contending in the NHL Eastern Conference playoff race

Following a sluggish start to their season, Florida was 5-6-3 back on November 7, the Panthers have picked up the pace some as they are 9-5-1 over their last 15 games. Backed by All-Star goaltender Roberto Luongo, and a defense first mantra, Florida sits ninth overall as they are allowing 2.41 goals per game. Offense is still a work in progress in South Beach as the Cats 2.48 GPG is tied with New Jersey at 21st overall in the NHL. After a pair of 4-2 losses to New Jersey and Ottawa, the Panthers recorded an impressive 4-1 win over the red-hot Washington Capitals at home on Thursday night.

Bruins vs Panthers Prediction: Tuukka Rask (10-7-3 GAA 2.63) versus Roberto Luongo (10-10-3 GAA 2.36) is a fairly even netminding matchup in this contest today. After allowing 22 goals during his first five starts – Rask is back to his All-Star form as he’s allowed just 30 goals over his last 15 outings. Luongo gave up five goals over four games prior to allowing seven tallies during his last two starts. Boston has owned Florida recently as the Bruins are 11-2-0 in this series dating back to February 2013. The Cats last win in Beantown was a 2-0 shutout on December 8, 2011. Liking the higher scoring team here – we are backing Boston with a 500 unit wager on the money line price posted on the NHL betting board at Bodog. Click through to Bodog via the odds image below.
