Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Odds

One of the most prestigious turf races in the world, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is contested on the first Sunday in October at the legendary Longchamp Racecourse in Paris. The mile and one half event is contested over an undulating turf course and is often referred to simply as “The Arc.” The winner of the Arc frequently ships to the United States some four weeks later to contest the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

While atttending a world-class race like the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is a once-in-lifetime opportunity for racing fans in North America, there’s still no reason to miss the action if you can’t make it to Longchamp. A safe, reliable online racebook is a must for players who enjoy betting races from all over the world. Even more enticingly, the online partners below put more money back into the pockets of their players with sign-up bonuses, rebates and referral programs that keep the wagering coffers plentiful.

Longchamp offers a physically unique layout consisting of four different tracks that vary in length from 1,000 to 4,000 meters and 46 different starting posts. The storied track which opened in 1857 is set against the beautiful Parisian skyline, but well-lined with trees and greenery. The Longchamp Racecourse is 2,750 meters in length and includes a notable rise and descending turn, making the course a tricky one to navigate for jockeys and horses alike.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Betting Tips

As with most turf racing anywhere in the world, the single most important variable for betting the Arc could be the “going,” or condition of the turf. With the October weather in Paris usually cool and damp, the amount of give or moisture in the turf course can prove to be to the benefit of some and detriment of other runners in the field. While most European-based horses are well-adapted to a softer turf course, there are different levels of soft to consider.

In general, it’s best for a handicapper to begin a study of the Arc contenders like they would any other race – by sorting out form, class and speed – before making final decisions on race day that are informed by how certain horses have handled different types of terrain in their careers. In most cases, past peformances of horses running in the Arc will show efforts over several different types of turf. This makes it easier to select horses based on the current condition of the grass.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Results

Even in the turf-dominant world of European racing, the Arc is a standout race that boasts past winners among the most decorated and accomplished of any grass race in the world. Horses like Montjeu (1999), Sakhee (2001), Hurricane Run (2005), Dylan Thomas (2007), Zarkava (2008), and Sea the Stars (2009) are just recent examples of Arc winners who will go down as some of thoroughbred racing’s greatest turf stars. Even more recently, superstar fillies Treve (2013 & 2014) and Found (2016) captured the Arc against male rivals.

Treve is one of just seven horses to win the Arc twice and the first since Alleged did so in 1977 and 78.’ For her own part in history, Found is the only Arc winner to have also won the Breeders’ Cup Turf, which she did in 2015 beating that year’s Arc Winner Golden Horn in the process. Found returned to the Breeders’ Cup Turf in 2016, finishing a fine third-place behind her stablemate, Highland Reel, who stole the race by sprinting clear in the early stages and hanging on late.
