Del Mar Race Track Betting

Located alongside the Pacific Ocean, just north of San Diego, Del Mar Racetrack was opened in 1937 by an ownership group that included the famous crooner Bing Crosby. The track is considered one of the elite venues in thoroughbred racing and has been noted for its beauty and attractive location. Its famous summer meeting begins in mid-July and runs through late September. [+]

Not long after the closing of Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, Del Mar began a November meeting that runs through mid-December.

Del Mar Race Track Entries

Betting ponies at the seaside location of Del Mar is tough to beat, but players looking to enjoy the convenience of wagering from a mobile device or computer and expand their bankrolls should are well-advised to find a reliable online racebook. Today’s top racebooks offer bonuses, loyalty and rebate programs that put more cash back into bettor’s pockets.

The Del Mar summer meet, known for drawing large and fashionable crowds, also features seven grade 1 races: The Pacific Classic, the Eddie Read, the Del Mar Futurity, the Del Mar Oaks, the Bing Crosby, the Clement L. Hirsch, and Del Mar Debutante. Chief among these races is the Pacific Classic which is run at the mile and one-quarter distance and attracts elite older horses. Inaugurated in 1991, the Pacific Classic has been won by such notables as Best Pal, Candy Ride, Lava Man, Beholder, Shared Belief and California Chrome.

Del Mar Race Track Picks

The term “California speed” in horse racing is an appropriate term, as horses running in the Golden state generally show much more early speed than in any other racing jurisdiction in North America. This bit of information should prompt horse players to consider just how fast the early pace will be and how many horses are intent on making the front right out of the gate.

With many shippers from other racetracks coming in for the Del Mar meeting, horses that have shown speed elsewhere may not have a prayer of making the lead. Conversely, a stout closer coming in from another racing circuit may be flattered by the sheer amount of early speed in front of him and pack a powerful late punch.

Del Mar is generally considered a speed-favoring dirt strip while it is difficult to pull off a gate-to-wire performance on the turf. Of course, these are generalities and dependent upon the individual abilities of the horse relative to the field they are facing. The Pick 4 and Pick 6 wager are both wildly popular bets at Del Mar and feature large pool sizes particularly during the summer meet.

Del Mar Race Track Results

Beholder’s 2015 romp in the Pacific Classic signified the first win by a filly or mare in the event’s history. The champ took it to the boys to the tune of a nine-length victory and was tabbed as a serious threat to American Pharoah in the Breeders’ Cup Classic before being forced to scratch due to illness. Beholder returned to win the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Distaff by a nose in a thrilling finish over the previously unbeaten Songbird.

Los Alamitos Futurity 2018 Bets
Not surprisingly the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity (Dec.8, 2:28 PT post) looks like another unnecessary reminder that Bob Baffert owns these types of races. The sliver-haired wizard will saddle two imposing colts -Improbable (6/5 ML) and Mucho Gusto (3/1) ML - in the six-horse field, and seems about 80-90 percent likely to come away with a win. These two are certainly worth noting in the Kentucky Derby Futures market.
