Today in our build-up to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, we’re looking at the USA and their predicted medal haul. Or to be more specific, can they beat both medal spreads?
USA Medal’s Table Betting
The USA is currently fifth in the latest Olympics sports betting at 16.00 to top the medals table. That’s not betting to win the most medals, but to top the official medals table.
2022 Winter Olympics; Medals Table Winner Betting | ![]() |
---|---|
Norway | 1.18 |
ROC | 9.00 |
Germany | 11.00 |
Canada | 16.00 |
USA | 16.00 |
Sweden | 67.00 |
Switzerland | 101.00 |
China | 151.00 |
The winner of the most gold medals tops the medal table. If there is a dead heat for gold, we move on to silvers. And if that is also a dead heat, the nation with the most bronzes tops the table.
In the betting to win the most medals, the USA are 14.00. That’s joint fourth in the betting, alongside North American neighbours, Canada.

Before that, let’s have a quick look back at Team USA’s performance back in the last Winter Olympics.
In 2018, Team USA went home with 9 gold and 23 medals overall. That saw the US finish fourth in both the official (gold) medals table, and the table for total medals won.
The top of both tables was Norway. They won 14 golds, with 39 overall.
So with Norway expected to do better than that this year, it’s easy to see why they are so far ahead in the betting for both medal’s tables.
Germany (14 gold and 31 overall) and Canada (11 golds and 29 overall) both won more medals than Team USA did.
Will Team USA beat the Spread?
At the moment the gold medal Spread on Team USA is 8.5 gold medals and 22.5 overall medals. So the spread seems fairly accurate based on the performance at Pyeongchang.
Already this year the USA looks to have lost out on a major medal chance in the men’s Ice Hockey.
The announcement by the NHL that none of its players would be taking part in the Winter Olympics was a major blow to the USA’s gold medal chances and saw their odds crash from 4.50 to 16.00.
Although the USA men’s Ice Hockey team did not medal in 2018, they still would have been expected to come home with a medal of some colour this year.

Gold Medals Spread
With the fate of the men’s Ice Hockey team already known, the spread for gold medals has been set at 8.5.
Data analyst firm Gracenote Sports, predict the USA is expected to get 7 golds. If correct, this would leave them two medals short of beating the spread.
The likes of Mikaela Shiffrin and Nathan Chen look good solid gold medal bets, but some of the others are less certain.
Based on what I’ve seen at previous Olympics, there is usually a shock gold medalist or two that comes from nowhere. But there is always one or two expected gold medalists that slip up as well.
In this instance, I can see the USA getting 7 or 8 gold medals and just falling short. So for my first pick, I’m betting against the spread and believe the USA will come in under 8.5 goals.

Total Medals Spread
The prediction for the USA’s total medals is 22, and the spread is set at 22.5. In the 2018 games the USA won 23 overall, and I can see them matching, and probably even beating that.
For any potential gold medalist that fails, then chances are they are still going to pick up a medal of some colour.
Like with the gold medal spread bet, there will be some expected medalists who fall short, and some who gatecrash the party.
I believe it’s more likely that a few more top 6 candidates will overachieve and make the podium, than expected medalists failing to make the top 3.
Therefore in total medals betting, my pick is for Team USA to beat the spread and claim 23 medals or more.
