Norway Favourited to Win Most Gold Medals in Beijing

Norway opens as the favourite to win the most Gold Medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Norway tied Germany with 14 Gold Medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics. They tied Russia in 2014 for the most Gold Medals with 11 Gold Medals.

Norway is the most decorated country ever at the Winter Olympics. Norway’s 132 Gold Medals are 27 more than the United States (the only other country with at least 100 Gold Medals at the Winter Games).

Norway is good at many different sports at the Olympics (although no one looks at them as a hockey powerhouse). They are home to many of the best skiers, snowboarders, skaters, and bobsledders in the world. One other thing to consider is how Norway dealt with the pandemic.

They did a better job than most – meaning many of the Norwegian athletes have had ample opportunities to train for the upcoming Winter Games.

Canada Can Finish the Games Tops in Gold Medal

Canada comes into the 2022 Winter Olympics with high expectations – especially with the return of NHL players to the Winter Games. Canada led the Winter Olympics in 2010 with 14 Gold Medals – although those games were played in Vancouver.

The new sports added to the 2022 Winter Olympics could help Canada win more medals. The seven new events at the Games are Women’s Monobob, Men’s and Women’s Big Air (Freestyle Skiing), Mixed Team Snowboard Cross, Mixed Team Aerials, Mixed Team Short Track Relay, and Mixed Team Ski Jumping.

Canada is excellent at skiing and snowboarding events. Last Winter Games saw Brady Leman and Kelsey Serwa win Gold Medals for Men’s and Women’s Ski Cross. Adding in some snowboarding cross could mean more chances at Gold. Couple that with the NHLers and Canada could see their Gold Medal totals jump from 11 in 2018 (and potentially win enough to lead the 2022 Winter Games in Golds).

China Could Finish the Games with the Most Golds on Home Soil

Although China is not as successful at the Winter Games as they are at the Summer Olympics, hosting the games is certainly a benefit. Two of the last three hosts finished the Games with the most Gold Medals.

China has only once led either the Summer or Winter Olympics in Gold Medals – the 2008 Summer Games which happened to take place in Beijing.

China is also gradually improving at the Winter Olympics. They have won 11, 11, nine, and nine total medals at the last four Winter Olympics. China’s best showing was at the 2010 Vancouver Games with five Gold Medals. For the Winter Olympics betting odds in Beijing, they are one country to watch.

Sweden Offers Go Longshot Value for Most Gold Medals

The best longshot to bet to finish the Winter Olympics with the most Gold Medals is Sweden. Sweden rebounded as a country from a very disappointing showing in 2014, with seven Gold Medals in 2018 (good for sixth overall). Seven Gold Medals matches their previous high – achieved at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Sweden is best at cross country skiing, curling, and hockey at the Winter Olympics. While hockey offers only two chances at medals, cross country skiing offers multiple chances of winning Gold Medals.

Another area that could help Sweden win more Gold Medals is their improvement in curling. They won the Gold in women’s curling and grabbed the Silver Medal in men’s at the 2018 Winter Olympics. We expect Sweden to be Olympic Curling betting favourites in Men’s and Women’s in 2022. It also means they likely get a shot to compete in mixed doubles – where they have another shot to medal in Beijing.
