- 02A's hold the advantage going into this one
- 03Which team will score first in Oakland?
- 04A's and Rays both major underdogs to win the AL Pennant
Pitchers' duel coming on Tuesday night
With both teams in do-or-die mode, they'll obviously be sending their top hurlers to the mound on Wednesday evening. At this point in the season, they have no choice.
For the Rays, stud righty Charlie Morton gets the nod, while Oakland will send out lefty Sean Manaea. Morton is sporting a 3.05 ERA on the year, while Manaea has a 4-0 record and 1.21 ERA. Yup, don't expect a lot of runs for this contest.
With the over/under set at 7.5 runs, we think it will be tough for the two teams to combine to reach that number. Go with the under, which hit in the Brewers-Nationals game.
A's hold the advantage going into this one
Both these teams are quite evenly matched up, there's no denying that. This campaign, Oakland won 97 games, while Tampa Bay won 96. Yup, barely a difference.
However, we can't deny the home-field advantage the Athletics will have on Wednesday evening. With a wild crowd on hand looking to rattle Morton, plus the strong Sean Manaea on the hill, will the A's get the job done?
Per Betway, they're the favorites, holding 1.71 odds to win. We think Oakland will come out on top.
Which team will score first in Oakland?
Believe it or not, the Rays are actually the favorites to score first. Tampa Bay holds 1.69 odds being the visiting team and batting first, while Oakland's odds are at 2.05.
As we saw in the game between the Nationals and Brewers, home-field advantage doesn't mean much in the scoring first department, as Milwaukee jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Washington, though, ended up winning 4-3.
Though we believe the A's will win this one, picking the Rays to score first feels like the strong decision.
A's and Rays both major underdogs to win the AL Pennant
While the World Series dreams are still alive for both Oakland and Tampa Bay, the two teams are major underdogs to win the AL Pennant.
The two American League clubs hold 11.00 odds. They are behind the Astros, Yankees and Twins. Houston holds the best odds at 1.95, while the Yankees are at 3.00 and Minnesota's odds are listed at 9.00.
Despite the unfavorable odds, think the A's can shock the world? If so, place your bet today.
