Finals Picks

This incredible tournament just keeps getting better. Both these teams were involved in epic semi-final matches that included own goals that helped them across the line.

While Riyad Mahrez's late winner for Algeria sent the nations into raptures, Senegalese fans needed to endure two missed penalties and an extra time own goal that led them to the final.

There is an English Premier League script here - Liverpool's Sadio Mane will face off against Manchester City's Mahrez, and there is the opportunity to create history. It's a huge game.

It's very hard to split these teams on paper, although there are matchwinners all over the park. It's expected to be a cagey match with few chances.

Nonetheless, we're not in the business of sitting on the fence. Our pick is for Senegal to get over the line and win the African Cup of Nations 2019 (2.75).

Senegal To Beat Algeria

The third-place playoff is normally an open affair as neither team really wants to participate after being so close to the final. Our tip here is Nigeria, although we also expect plenty of goals. Go for Nigeria (2.60) and over 2.5 goals (2.50).

Nigeria To Beat Tunisia

Semifinals Picks

Senegal's narrow win over Benin sees them into the semi-finals, and they will have their work cut out against a tought Tunisian team that finally ended Madagascar's incredible debut tournament.

Yet we haven't seen the best from the Senegalese yet - and we're confident they will be in the final. Go for Senegal (2.00).

Senegal To Beat Tunisia

Ivroy Coast took the Algerians to penalties in the quarter final, in what was a game full of drama. One day less preparation for the semi-final could make all the difference, especially as Nigeria only played 90 minutes against South Africa.

This will be a tough contest, but we think Nigeria will be the ones to progress. Go for the men in green (2.87).

Nigeria To Beat Algeria

Quarter Finals Picks

Senegal found it tough against Uganda but managed to get the job done. They remain one of the favourites for this year's title and should be too good for Benin despite their remarkable win over Morocco via penalties. Go for Senegal (1.46).

Senegal To Beat Benin

Madagascar continued their brilliant run by knocking out DR Congo, and are now looking at an African Cup of Nations quarter-final on their first attempt.

Their opponents will be favoured in this match, although the additional rest might prove crucial in what has been a scorching tournament. We're predicting them to progress, although the 90 minute score will be a draw. Go for the draw (3.41)

Madagascar vs Tunisia To Play To A Draw

Egypt's elimination has opened up this side of the draw, and nobody could have predicted that South Africa would be the team to do it. They will start as underdogs against Nigeria, who managed to come from behind to beat Cameroon in a thrilling 3-2 contest.

Nigeria are the better side, and they should get the win here. Go for Nigeria (2.00).

Nigeria To Beat South Africa

2015 winners Ivory Coast will be up against it in this match against an Algeria side full of confidence and eyeing a run to the final now that main rivals Egypt are out of the way. We simply can't see the Algerians losing given they are 4 for 4 and have scored nine unanswered goals in the tournament so far. Go for Algeria (2.25).

Algeria To Beat Ivory Coast

Round of 16 Picks

Uganda lost to hosts Egypt in the last matchday, although they have looked dangerous throughout the group stage. Senegal meanwhile won two of their three matches, and shoudln have enought firepower to advance here. Go for Senegal (1.58).

Senegal To Beat Uganda

The hosts should make light work of their opponents here - South Africa have only scored one goal all tournament and that was against lowly Namibia. The odds on Egypt winning are quite short (1.52), but well worth a bet, We also like 'no' in the 'both teams to score' market (1.47).

Egypt To Beat South Africa

The match of the round will be contested by two nations that have shared 8 AFCON trophies between them. Neither side has managed to assert their dominance at this tournament, and there has been little productivity up front.

Cameroon are yet to concede a goal, while both teams have scored just twice. This should be a tight one and a low-scoring match - go for under 2.5 total goals (1.53).

Nigeria vs Cameroon UNDER 2.5 Total Goals

The surprise packet of the tournament keeps rolling on - Madagascar finished undefeated after the group stage and will face a DR Congo side that barely made it through to the last 16. Incredibly, the island nation are underdogs here - go for Madagascar at great odds (3.20).

Madagascar To Beat DR Congo

Round 3 Picks

Madagascar are one of the surprises of the tournament, and will head into this match needing just a point to be absolutely sure of progression. Nigeria are already through and can afford to rest players - a tactic that would be wise considering the heat at this event. What we have seen is a tournament with minimal goals, and we think this will follow the script. Go for under 2.5 goals here.

Nigeria vs Madagascar UNDER 2.5 Total Goals

This is an interesting one. Egypt are hosts and favourites for the tournament, yet there is also a good chance that they may give players like Mo Salah a rest ahead of the quarter finals. Then again, Uganda will take top spot in the group if they win, and they have been impressive so far. A draw is enough for Egypt, but we think they can do enough to win and the odds are fantastic. Go for Egypt (1.90).

Uganda vs Egypt UNDER 2.5 Total Goals

Kenya came from behind twice to beat Tanzania, and will pose a threat to Senegal who need to win to ensure progression. Senegal are still by far a superior team, and the added incentive of needing to win will be a boost here. Go for Senegal for the win.

Senegal To Beat Kenya

Algeria has secured their place in the second round although they will be tough to beat regardless of which team they put on the park. Tanzania are winless, although three points may allow them to scrape into the Round of 16 if things go their way. On paper though, Algeria should be too good here.

Algeria To Beat Tanzania

Round 2 Picks

Egypt weren’t bad in their narrow 1-0 win over Zimbabwe, although the heavy tournament favourites did seem to concede plenty of possession in the victory that could have easily seen the underdogs snare a point. Congo DR on the other hand didn’t trouble the scorers against Uganda, and will need to bounce back quickly to avoid an early exit. Tough to go past the home side here though – and the odds are decent. Go for Egypt (1.53).

Egypt vs Congo DR To Beat Congo DR

Uganda shocked Congo DR with two goals from set pieces in their opening match, and will now face a Zimbabwe side that were solid against Egypt though created few chances. In another afternoon match where temperatures will be very high once more, this is a game that should feature few goals. Uganda for the win (2.30) although the safest bet is under 2.5 total goals (1.41).

Uganda vs Zimbabwe UNDER 2.5 Total Goals

Guinea were lucky to draw with first-time AFCON competitors Madagascar in their first match, while Nigeria won narrowly against Burundi. Nigeria are easily the better side here, and the odds on Nigeria to win are a steal. Go for the team in green here (1.87).

Nigeria To Beat Guinea

Algeria won two of their three warm-up matches, and while they haven't been at their best, their ability to pick up results will see them in good stead ahead of their match against Kenya.

The biggest match of the round features two English Premier League attacking weapons. Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez scored in the opening round, while Liverpool’s Sadio Mane returns for this match after suspension. Both teams scored 2-0 wins, and with a point almost assuring them of progression, this one could be cagey. Go for the draw here.

Senegal vs Algeria To Play to a DRAW

Round 1 Picks

Hosts Egypt have the simple task of defeating huge underdogs Zimbabwe in their opening match, and should show their favouritism for the tournament with a comfortable win. Their head to head odds are quite low (1.18), although there is a lot of value in the over/under market.

Egypt may be known for defensive play, but they still should score more than a few goals in this match, particularly with Mo Salah available. Over +2.5 goals is the smart play here.

Egypt vs Zimbabwe OVER 2.5 Total Goals

Guinea were beaten 3-1 by a good Egypt side in their latest warm-up match, although they should easily beat Madagascar, who are making their debut in the expanded 24-team tournament. Surprisingly, the odds are quite decent for Guinea here - select them for the win (1.62).

Guinea To Beat Madagascar

Morocco had a solid World Cup in a tough group alongside Spain and Portugal, and are a much better side than Namibia, who have never made it out of the group stage at AFCON.

Again, the odds on Morocco are quite generous, perhaps due to their recent warm-up loss against Zambia, but this is a safe bet. Go for the Northern Africans (1.33).

Morocco To Beat Namibia

Algeria won two of their three warm-up matches, and while they haven't been at their best, their ability to pick up results will see them in good stead ahead of their match against Kenya.

While the Kenyans too had a decent build up, we can't see the Algerians dropping points here. Go for Algeria (1.54) and also select under 2.5 goals.

Algeria vs Kenya UNDER 2.5 goals

What are the Odds to Win the Africa Cup of Nations 2019

Senegal 1.86 1.85 1.81
Algeria 1.90 1.90 1.97

Here are our pre-tournament picks to win the Africa Nations Cup:

Despite their poor showing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in which they lost all three matches, Egypt are the clear favourites for 2019 according to the African Cup of Nations Betting odds.

Egypt To Win Africa Nations Cup Odds

Home ground advantage looks to be the main reason for the sportsbooks selecting the Egyptians as the number-one chance, while English Premier League golden-boot winner Mo Salah is one of the best forwards in the world and gives his side an edge over the opposition. Egypt have also won the last two tournaments in which they have been hosts, and were runners-up in 2017, so the 5.00 odds are certainly a generous offering.

African Cup of Nations Odds Egypt

Senegal and Ghana are the other big chances according to the outright African Cup of Nations 2019 betting odds, paying around 8.00 each depending on the sportsbook you choose. Senegal were impressive and ultimately unlucky at the World Cup, and look to be a strong side on paper, while Ghana also boast a number of international stars and will be a team to watch.

Africa Nations Cup 2019 Picks & Predictions

If the odds are anything to go by, then this Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be one of the most competitive and unpredictable to date.

The inclusion of 24 teams (up from 16) will see more nations in with a chance at lifting the famous trophy, and even if the top sides make it to the later stages of the event, it's still a tough call to pick a winner.

The fact that hosts and favourites Egypt start at odds of 5.00 is a good sign that anyone can win this year's tournament, although there's no doubt that home advantage is a massive boost. Egypt has not lost a competitive home fixture since November 2014.

However, the first of our African Nations Cup predictions is based on the team that last managed to defeat Egypt on home soil - Senegal. The top-ranked team in Africa were easily the best nation from the continent at the 2018 World Cup and boast a squad that oozes with talent. The majority of the first team plays in the French top division, and the side is captained by Liverpool's Sadio Mane, who shared the top goal-scoring honours with Mo Salah in the 2018/19 English Premier League season.

African Nations Cup Picks

Senegal admittedly don't have an amazing record at the AFCON tournament, although the move to a Summer start date will play into their hands and gives us confidence they will lift the trophy. This is because they have one of the best squads to choose from and there will be minimal injuries given that the event is held outside of the European domestic season.

We think Senegal will go all the way at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, and at odds around 8.00 they're fantastic value for a pre-tournament selection.

In addition to the outright market, there are also opportunities to pick the winners of each Africa Cup of Nations group. Many groups have clear favourites (such as Egypt in Group A and Nigeria in Group B), although there are a couple of value bets available, as long as you know who to pick.

There is a tough battle in Group D as Morocco and Ivory Coast go head to head for the top of their group. Morocco are surprisingly the underdog in this market, although we're backing the Northern African nation to win the battle, and the odds are decent too (2.40).

Morocco To win Group D Odds

Cameroon was stripped of the right to host the 2019 tournament due to poor planning and security arrangements by their officials.

Cameroon To win Group C Odds

Yet we think the 2017 champions will bounce back from this disappointment and topple Group F rivals Ghana by winning the final group. They are paying 2.30 to do so.

What are the Types of Africa Cup of Nations Betting Odds

Africa Nations Cup betting odds aren't limited to futures markets - each of the 52 matches at AFCON 2019 can be bet on, and whenever you're betting on individual soccer games there are stacks of different lines and markets for you to choose from.

The key thing to remember when betting on international soccer tournaments is that unlike the majority of North-American sports, moneyline bets have three outcomes. All matches including the knockout stage fixtures can finish as a draw after 90 mins in addition to a win or loss to your team.

The good news is that you will always get better moneyline odds on soccer bets, so as long as you're aware that the draw is always a possibility, you'll have the potential to receive a higher payout on all moneyline soccer wagers.

If you prefer a two-option outcome, all top sportsbooks will give you the chance to eliminate the draw by selecting the 'draw no bet' line, which results in a push (or refunded bet) in the event a draw occurs. In knockout matches, you can select the 'odds to progress' line to select the winner of the match including any possible extra-time or penalty shootout.
