Jets kickoff 2019 at the Paint Can...

The Winnipeg Jets will play their first game of 2019 on Friday January 4th at 7pm EST in Pittsburgh as they face the red hot Penguins at the PPG Paints Arena.

The Jets, who are 7-3 in their last 10 games, snapped a mini 2 game losing streak on New Years Eve when they downed the Edmonton Oilers, 4-3 in Alberta with a goal late in the 3rd period. Now with all the partying and drinking behind them, they'll take fresh legs on to the ice.

However, more than 3 days rest is not a luxury often afforded to an NHL team. In 2 such cases this season the Jets are 1-1.

Pittsburgh on the other hand has been very busy during the festive season, and for a team looking to better their standing in the Eastern Conference, busy is good thing.

For the Pittsburgh Penguins, Friday's game vs the Jets will be their 5th of 8 games in a row being played every other night. And the consistent routine has worked as the Penguins have reeled off 7 straight wins, including their most recent, a 7-2 beatdown of the Rangers in MSG.

And what was really spectacular about Wednesday's game was the total team effort put forth. All 7 goals were scored by a different player and 6 players had 2 points. When everyone gets in on the fun, a team can truly hit their peak and that's what we are witnessing with the Penguins at the moment.

We're recommending a 2 unit play on the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night. It's not hard to back a team in such scorching form but their particular dominance of this series is something else to behold.

Since moving back to Winnipeg the Jets are 4-14 SU vs the Penguins

The Jets and Penguins are "Special" Teams

Pittsburgh and Winnipeg are both going to be forces to be reckoned with for the remainder of the season in large part due to their power play and penalty killing units. Halfway through the season both penalty killing and power play units for both franchises rank in the 10 top, percentage wise, in the NHL.

The Jets at 28.1% have the 2nd best power play in the league while the Penguins rank 5th at 26.61%.

The Jets however get a lot of practice on the kill, as one of the most penalized teams in the league while Pittsburgh is one of the least penalized.
