Jets vs. Avalanche Team Previews

Winnipeg Jets – Depth Key to Jets Success

Despite playing fewer games than most teams in the league, the Winnipeg Jets are only four points back of the top spot in the Western Conference. The reason behind their success is excellent depth. The Jets have eight players on their team on pace to score more than 40 points this season, one more than their total from last season (when they reached the Western Conference Finals).

Colorado Avalanche – Most Dangerous Trio of Scorers in the NHL

With two of the top scorers in the NHL, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, the Colorado Avalanche are in the midst of another successful season. The 128 points between the two (in 42 games) is five points more than the next highest scoring duo in the NHL. Their play, along with Gabriel Landeskog, is the primary reason the Avalanche reached the middle of the NHL season, holding down the third spot in the Central Division.

The Avalanche need more secondary scoring to be legitimate Stanley Cup contenders. However, as long as their top players are scoring, they are a tough out for any team on any night.

Jets vs. Avalanche Game Prediction

Two of the top three teams in the Central Division square off on Tuesday night, as the Avalanche travel to Winnipeg for the second time this season. The Jets have picked up at least a point in nine of their last ten games against the Avalanche and should continue their successful ways.

Despite a slowdown in scoring from Patrik Laine (18 goals in November, only three in December), the Jets have scored the fourth most goals in the Western Conference. The depth of Winnipeg is why they are continuing to perform as one of the league’s elite teams, even when one of their best players is struggling.

The Avalanche are dealing with some goaltender health issues, with Semyon Varlamov listed as questionable, a trend for the goalie over the last few seasons.

This puts a lot of pressure on the Avalanche to stop the Jets from scoring at home. The Jets have scored five or more goals at home in six of their last nine games. The Jets are also averaging 4.67 against the Avalanche over their last three games. The Jets offence should once again have a productive night, as their secondary scoring and goaltending give them the edge on Tuesday.
