In the past, the Bills won 2 AFL Championships in 1964 and 1965. They've won four AFC Conference Championships, in 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993. In total, they've won 10 Division Championships 4 in the AFC and 6 in the AFC. Their most recent AFC title was in 1995.
The last time the Buffalo Bills were in the super bowl was in 1992, where they lost to the Dallas Cowboys. In the past five years, they haven't been in the playoffs. Their most recent appearance was in 1999 in the wild card game in 1999. This progression is indicative of a team that has been in decline. Yet, like all teams starting in the bottom, the Bills have the potential to push up in the rankings.
Some of the strengths of the team include their new coach, Rex Ryan. One of their strengths includes cornerback Corey Graham who showed himself in his first year.
What's more important to consider is what the Bills need to improve on. Ryan's main issues are his defensive line and his offensive line. Ryan leads the defensive line of the 2000 Superbowl winning Baltimore Ravens. He will probably apply the same tactics in this current line. The key players on the defensive line are Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus.
When it comes to the offensive line, Ryan will have to coordinate Cordy Glenn and Richie Incognito. Yet, two players that are causing a challenge to Ryan are Chris Williams and Seantrel Henderson. To succeed, Ryan will need to incorporate and fine-tune those players effectively.
The Bills finished the 2015-2016 season with an 8-8 record. They scored 379 points for, and they allowed 359 points against. They had a .500 % completion percentage. Their highest streak was a two-win streak.
