New York Knicks @ Toronto Raptors Odds

Knicks @ Raptors Game Preview

New York Knicks

It's already a long season for Knicks fans as their beloved team is struggling this early. The team is without star player Kristaps Porzingis (F/C) until next season and rookie Kevin Knox (F) is banged up. Tim Hardaway Jr. (G/F) and Enes Kanter (C) have stepped up for New York, but they lack firepower (21st in offence) and is outgunned against elite teams like Toronto.

Toronto Raptors

A dozen games in, and the Kawhi Leonard experiment is paying off for the Raptors. Toronto is sitting tied at first with Golden State. They have only lost once and are undefeated at home: 6-0. Even if Leonard sits, Toronto will have a deep supporting cast led by Kyle Lowry (G) and Serge Ibaka (F/C). This team is already great and they're just warming up.

Game Snippet

The Raptors own the Knicks in the Air Canada Centre. New York hasn't won a game in Toronto since November 2015 and they are outmatched in almost every facet. It's possible for them to keep the game competitive, especially if Leonard rests. But Toronto will control this game from start to finish.

Point Spread Prediction

Toronto is winning a lot, but they are just a bit above .500 when it comes to the spread. They just barely missed it against Phoenix, Minnesota, and Dallas (all wins). The trend? These were spreads at +8.5 or higher, similar to this game. The good news is, the Raptors dominate the Knicks in Toronto.

The Raptors are 4-1 in their last five games when hosting the Knicks. They have beaten them by an average of 16.8 points dating back to January 2016, the last time they failed to cover (-12). New York has the sixth-worst true shooting percentage (52.3) and eighth-worst defensive rating (110.5) among road teams.

The spread (odds) shouldn't be a problem for Toronto with one caveat: garbage time. The Raptors may be up by over 20 by the start of the fourth that they rest the starters. But even if this happens, Toronto's reserves are much more talented than New York's. Toronto covers.

Pick: Toronto Raptors (-11.5)

Over/Under Prediction

Toronto is one of the most prolific teams in the NBA and ranked second in offence, just behind the defending champions, the Warriors. They are averaging 117.4 points a game and have a TS% of 58.8, third-best. Scoring will come easy for them, but it's a matter of how many points they concede to New York.

The Knicks have scored an average of 94.6 points in Toronto in their last five games. Last season, they failed to even hit 90 points in their two games. Outside Hardaway Jr., the Knicks don't have many weapons on offence. This is a potential blowout with the Knicks failing to hit 100.

Bank on the under as the trend suggests.

Pick: Under +219.5
