Bet On Edmonton Elks’ Games

Though they technically kicked things off back in 1895, the game did not really get started until 1949 when this version of the Edmonton Elks got incorporated into the Canadian Football League. Within five years of their arrival, the Elkies – as they are commonly known – hoisted their first Grey Cup. This early success does not match their future accomplishments they began nearly two decades later.

From 1972 to 2005 – a span of 34 seasons – the Edmonton Elks did not miss the CFL playoffs once. The 34 season stretch is the longest any team in the history, of not just the CFL, but the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB has experienced.

The streak ended as the competition in the Western Division really started to improve. Of course better competition creates a better sport and more parity – and do not forget tenser, tighter, tougher rivalries. The biggest rival of the Edmonton Elks is the Calgary Stampeders. The two teams compete in the Battle for Alberta – which is a term used for any sporting competition between Calgary and Edmonton, but the CFL and NHL rivalry are the most meaningful. Throughout their hundreds of meetings, the Edmonton Elks hold the edge in both the regular-season series and playoff games.

Edmonton plays at Commonwealth stadium, the largest permanent home stadium for a CFL team. When the team is playing at a high level, the place is often packed and the crowds help cheer the Elkies to great home-field advantage. Like Calgary to the south, Edmonton typically enjoys a large amount of sunny weather, but it can be cooler in the latter part of the season and playoffs.
