One of the world’s most beautiful stadiums from the outside-in, BC Place is Vancouver’s multi-purpose stadium located on the north side of False Creek. It houses the BC Lions and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of the MLS. It also hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and features the annual Canada Sevens. Opened in 1983, it was the world’s largest air-supported domed stadium until 2010.

Around 2008, the stadium underwent major renovations in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Everything from the concourses to seats to washrooms were upgraded.
The main focus was the roof, which was upgraded to become the largest cable-supported retractable roof in the world. The revolving doors were replaced with clear glass doors allowing fans to enter and exit the stadium much more easily. Over a thousand new HDTV screens were added along with a new state-of-the-art sound system.
BC Lions Home Schedule
The BC Lions are the CFL’s model of excellence. They made the playoffs for 20 consecutive seasons from 1997 to 2016, which is the longest active streak and second-longest in CFL history.
They have won the Grey Cup six times and became the first Western CFL team to win it at home in 1994, a feat they repeated in 2011.
They are the oldest pro sports franchise based in Vancouver being founded in 1954. No matter what their record is, they are always a threat to win the Grey Cup.
Hotels Near BC Place
Vancouver is home to some of the best hotels and there are plenty within the BC Place’s vicinity. The YWCA Hotel is one of the best budget hotels that has a lovely atmosphere and perfect for a short stay in the city. The Hampton Inn & Suites is also right around the corner and is beautifully designed with welcoming accommodations. But the Sunset Inn and Suites is arguably the best value around town. It is clean, quiet and spacious with great customer service. It’s a bit further than the YWCA and Hampton but it’s still within walking distance.
