Washington vs New York: Nationals Aim to Sweep the Mets

While not big fans of wagering on home teams to give up a series sweep in their own yard, we are going to make an exception to that rule here. Washington is bringing brooms into New York tonight as the Nationals seek a three-game series sweep of the Mets. Dillion Gee battles Stephen Strasburg on the bump and first pitch is slated for 7:10 PM ET on August 14, 2014, at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, NY. Back the Nats sweep here.

Strasburgh needs to get right as playoff races heat up

One should always be careful when tossing around “Phenom” to describe an up and coming sports star. That’s the case with Stephen Strasburg who was anointed as the second coming of Nolan Ryan – prior to firing his first MLB pitch. Although he has piled up 186 strikeouts over 156.1 innings, Stasburgh (8-10 ERA 3.68) is certainly not the “lock” he should be. The Strasinator gave up four runs on five hits and struck out ten hitters over six innings in the Nationals 9-7 Opening Day win over the Mets at Citi Field in his only start versus New York this season.

Not much is Amazin’ about the New York Mets 2014 MLB season

On track to miss the MLB postseason party for an eighth straight season, New York appears to be playing out the string as they have posted a 5-8 record during August. The Mets (57-64) are 9.5 games out of first in the NL East and seven games back in the Wild Card race – with six teams to leapfrog. Hitting has been a big problem for the Metropolitans as their meager .238 team batting average ranks 29th (SD Padres .225) in the Majors. Strasburg will face a Mets squad that has 977 strikeouts (eight per game average) which is seventh worst in the league.
