Washington vs Miami: Nationals Aim For Top NL Playoff Position
Still stinging, after getting greedy on Tuesday, we recognize our glaring mistake and move on. Sticking with Major League Baseball, our focus is on the first game of a doubleheader between Washington vs Miami. This is the final regular season series for both teams as the Nationals look forward to the playoffs and the Marlins plan for the offseason. First pitch flies at 1:05 PM ET on September 25, 2014, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Nationals look to fend off the Dodgers for top NL playoff seed
With the National League East pennant secured long ago, Washington now looks to earn home field advantage in the NL playoffs as they currently own a 2.5 game lead over Los Angeles for the best record in the senior circuit. After coming over from Detroit during the offseason, RHP Doug Fister (15-6 ERA 2.55) has been a perfect fit in the District. Fister has the lowest ERA of any Nationals starter, he’s allowed the least walks (24 over 155 innings) and his career high 15 wins have him tied with Tanner Roark for the team lead. The Nats have won Fister’s last three starts including a 3-2 victory over Miami at Marlins Park back on September 19, 2014.
Miami Marlins: Post All Star break surge falls short in South Beach
Despite a 20-12 run coming out of the All Star break, that moved Miami one game over .500 halfway through August, the Marlins have recorded their fifth straight losing season. Appearing as though they are playing out the string and mailing it in, Miami has lost ten of their last 15 games – including a four game sweep by the Nationals in South Beach last week. We don’t see the fish having much fight in this contest when they visit the District today.
MLB Prediction: Although it appears to be almost certain - Washington still has a little work to do if they want to secure the best record in the National League. They certainly haven’t been easing off the gas as the Nats are on a 14-4 roll and we expect another strong effort here. The fact that they played a doubleheader yesterday is a slight concern – though more so in the second half of today’s double dip – a game that we’ll stay away from. We will back the playoff bound Nationals here with a 500 unit money line bet at the SportsInteraction sportsbook.

Handicappers who convince themselves - and anyone else who will listen - that the Kentucky Derby is just another race probably haven't cashed too many tickets on the first Saturday in May. The truth is people should bet the Derby differently because of just how unlike any other race it is.
