The Viral Roundup – Mary’s Prayer Edition

The Viral Roundup – Mary’s Prayer Edition
Green Bay get a miracle primetime win, the Heat squeak past the Thunder in a wild one and early reports suggest that the Blue Jays have locked down their new GM. Here's the sparkling fresh world of sports you're waking up to on December 4, 2015.

Did You Hear?

It was a heartbreaker even by Lions standards. A 61-yard Hail Mary from Aaron Rodgers to Richard Rodgers with no time remaining scored Green Bay a 27-23 comeback victory over Detroit. Favoured by a field goal going in, the Packers came back from a 20 point deficit to improve to 8-4 on the year. Aaron Rodgers threw for two TDs and ran in for another while his Lions counterpart threw for 220 yards in a losing cause. The Packers can move into a tie for first in the NFC North if Seattle beat Minnesota this Sunday.

Did You See?

The National Basketball Association has gifted us with a wealth of highlight reel worthy moments this season, but let’s get to the garbage, shall we? November’s ample collection of lowlights, mistakes and boneheaded decisions all populate this sweet blooper reel showcasing the fails of the month. Speaking of achievements, the Philadelphia 76ers rank as the longest longshot on the NBA Championship futures board. The Sixers are seen as a 2000/1 to nab the title this summer. The team considered the most likely winner? That’d be Golden State at 3/2.

Did You Know?

- The Heat and Thunder hot potatoed who was on top throughout their clash on Thursday night with 38 lead changes in total. Dwyane Wade scored a pair of game-winning foul shots with a second-and-a-half remaining to give Miami (a five point home underdog) a 97-95 victory. In addition to the charity stripe baskets, Wade scored 28 on the night while Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant both put in 25 apiece for Oklahoma City in a losing cause.

- Patrick Kane tied a franchise record with his 21st game with a goal, but it was Mark Hoffman’s marker that always was talking about once the contest wrapped up. Hoffman scored the OT winner that gave Ottawa a 4-3 extra time victory over the visiting Blackhawks. (The Sens were a mild +120 home underdog heading in.) Chicago are currently on a three game skid and can bust out of it at home against Winnipeg.

- Coldplay has been revealed as the act for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The English pop-rock outfit will follow in the footsteps of Katy Perry who had the gig last year. This year’s edition (which is the 50th Super Bowl) will take place on February 7th in Santa Clara.

- The Toronto Sun and San Francisco Chronicle are reporting that Cleveland Indians vice-president of player personnel Ross Atkins has been tapped as the new general manager for the Toronto Blue Jays. He will succeed Alex Anthopoulos under new president and CEO (and former Indians exec) Mark Shapiro. The move comes in a complicated offseason for the club as they deal with free agency losses (like David Price signing with Boston) while trying to figure out how to build on their ALCS-reaching 2015 success. The Jays initially opened up as an 8/1 2016 World Series contender, but have dipped on some futures boards to 14/1.
