Wrigley Field wasn’t all that hospitable to its guests from Arizona this weekend. The Cubs (a -155 home favourite) topped the D-Backs 6-4 on Sunday to score a three game sweep in the Second City. Kris Bryant launched a homer that was smacked so hard that it went off the left field video board and allowed the young star to tie the club’s single season rookie RBI record. Miguel Montero and Jonathan Herrera also went yard in the win and Chicago now moves on to a very important trio of games in St. Louis. Meanwhile, Arizona returns home to face San Francisco.

A brand new season of college football has just began and we already have a strong contender for finish of the year. Nebraska was up 28-27 on BYU in Saturday afternoon action until a heartbreaking/harrowing Hail Mary with zero seconds on the clock flipped fortunes around. Tanner Mangum’s 42 yard pass to Mitch Mathews were the theatrics necessary to give the Cougars a 33-28 victory. The footage is must-see.

- Notre Dame are in a tricky spot when it comes to patching up a hole in their offense. The Fighting Irish will have to make do without last season’s leading rusher Tarean Folston after he suffered an ACL tear in his right knee. The injury came during Saturday’s 38-3 blowout of Texas and puts former wideout C.J. Prosise and freshman Josh Adams in a spot to take over the bulk of the carries. Notre Dame’s next contest is against Virginia.
- Get ready to add another name to the Dallas rushing depth chart. The Cowboys worked out at a deal with Seattle to bring Texas A&M alum Christine Michael into the fold. A second round selection by the Seahawks in the 2013 NFL Draft, Michael had been used sparingly by Seattle and found himself the odd man out in a battle for the #3 RB position on the roster. The Cowboys (who sent back a conditional pick) have a busy backfield of their own with Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar on the roster. Dallas opens the season against the Giants this weekend and are pegged as a 5.5 point favourite at home.
- Montee Ball has gotten the heave-ho in Denver. A second round Broncos draft pick, the 24-year-old running back made the final roster but was waived on Sunday. Ball fell behind on the depth chart of a busy Denver rushing corps and wasn’t able to climb into more desirable territory. He is the sort of rusher that will attract interest elsewhere, so there’s a good chance he’ll suit up elsewhere in 2015. By the way, Denver’s listed as a 5 point favourite to defeat Baltimore this Sunday.
