The Viral Roundup – Power Play Edition

Did You Hear?

Toronto keeps on crushing in their post-makeover incarnation. The Blue Jays (a big -200 moneyline home favourite) swept the Tigers courtesy of a 9-2 victory at Rogers Centre. Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnación, Kevin Pillar and Russell Martin all went yard in the win and Jays starter Mark Buerhle put in a strong six inning performance to improve to 14-6 record in 2015. Toronto’s 1.5 game hold on the AL East remains the same as the Yanks kept pace yesterday with a 20-6 blowout of Atlanta.

We’re currently going stir crazy waiting for another NBA season to tip off. (Cleveland are the 11/4 favourite to win next year’s title, by the way.) As we rock back and forth counting down the days, enjoy this video the NBA’s put out featuring last season’s most mind blowing crossovers. It might even break your ankles.

Did You Know?

- Do you have room in your heart for another 2015 no-hitter? Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta pitched a no-no in Los Angeles on Sunday night as Chicago edged out Los Angeles 2-0. The hurler tossed 12 strikeouts and only gave up a solitary walk. Arrieta’s no-hitter is the sixth one Major League Baseball has seen this season.

- St. Louis bounced San Francisco 7-5 in Sunday MLB action. The Cards exit the three game set with a 2-1 final tally and enjoyed a great 3-5 outing at the plate from outfielder Jason Heyward. The visiting victory has St. Louis at an impressive 38-27 on the road this season. The Cardinals return home today to host the Nationals, while San Francisco has an important three game series at Dodgers Stadium starting this evening.

- The reliably messy Washington QB situation has a new wrinkle to it. ESPN reports that the club will be starting Kirk Cousins instead of Robert Griffin III in their season opener versus Miami. Washington, pegged at 14/1 odds to win the NFC East, have had some alright outings from Cousins in the preseason. It should be noted that RGIII is awaiting medical clearance after suffering concussion-like symptoms earlier this month.

- Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm’s bantamweight title bout is going to be going down earlier than expected. It’s been announced that the fight has been pulled from January’s UFC 195 card to be plugged into Australia’s UFC 193 show set for November 14/15. (It’s Australia so its spot on the calendar depends on what side of the world you’re on.) UFC 193 gains a fight in Rousey/Holm, but the scheduled welterweight title bout between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit has been scrapped. Lawler suffered a thumb injury which means he won’t be able to defend his title.
