Did You Hear?
The MLB trade deadline looms on the horizon (Friday’s the big day) and Kansas City is waiting until the last minute to snap up a big acquisition. The Royals (currently listed as a 6/1 World Series contender) sorted out a deal that will send Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cuerto to the American League. Cueto had an outstanding game over the weekend pitching eight shutout innings versus the Rockies. This move will definitely provide a major boost to a Kansas City rotation that’s been an underwhelming part of an otherwise fearsome baseball club. Cueto’s gone 7-6 this season with a 2.62 ERA. He’s joining a Royals squad that has the second fewest quality starts in the Majors in 2015.

Do you smell what the Jacksonville Sharks are cooking? Did You Know?
- Gerrit Cole’s stellar 2015 campaign continues. The Pittsburgh Pirates starter notched 8 Ks in 7+ innings to power the Pirates to a 3-1 victory over the NL East leading Washington Nationals. (For those of you keeping a tally, Cole’s now a tremendous 14-4 on the year.) Andrew McCutchen went 1-3 with an RBI and Neil Walker hit his ninth dinger of the season in a winning cause. The Pirates exit the series with a 3-1 edge in the set.
- Hurler Andrew Heaney improved to 5-0 on the year and Mike Trout blasted a pair of homers yesterday as the Los Angeles Angels thumped the Texas Rangers 13-7. The Sunday victory prevented the Halos from being swept in the three game set. The Angels currently hold a slim one game lead over the Astros at the top of the AL West.
- The Indianapolis Colts are cutting Gosder Cherilus loose. The 6’7” right tackle has been released by the AFC North club two years removed from a big money deal paying $34 million over 5 years. Cherilus has had a bit of injury trouble, but was ultimately dropped because 2014 second rounder Jack Mewhort was considered a better option at the position. (Mewhort started the back of last season at left guard.) The Colts are listed as an 8/1 wager to win the 2016 Super Bowl.
