The Viral Roundup – Miserable Mets Edition

The Viral Roundup – Miserable Mets Edition

Hello! Welcome to another freshly scrubbed installment of The Viral Roundup! We’re your daily one-stop shop for all the big news, big buzz and big developments headlining a new day in the world of sports. In today’s edition: Mr. Met may want a divorce, Jose Aldo suffers a rib injury and what the heck is happening with DeMarcus Cousins?

Did You Hear?

Spare a thought for the New York Mets. The Big Apple’s National League club has been sinking in the NL East standings and Milwaukee had no problem handing the miserable Mets their sixth straight loss. The Brewers squeaked out a 3-2 win at Miller Park aided by a game-winning run in the 7th facilitated by a Michael Cuddyer error from the outfield. Milwaukee 1B Adam Lind had a solid day at the plate going 2-4 with an RBI and the contact that led to Cuddyer’s mistake. Game 2 of this three game set goes down tonight with the Brew Crew a -120 moneyline favourite to extend New York’s losing streak.

Did You See?

Wimbeldon looms on the horizon and so to does an awesome looking mockumentary from HBO featuring Andy Samberg and Kit “call me Jon Snow if you must” Harington as tennis rivals. The trailer has arrived and it boasts cameos galore from Serena Williams, Will Forte and loads more famous faces. We presume there will be a bit of John McEnroe yelling for a stretch too.

Did You Know?

- Could UFC 189′s main event be in jeopardy? Jose Aldo suffered a fractured rib during training and there’s worry this development could axe his featherweight title defense versus Conor McGregor. (Aldo’s a -130 favourite to retain the belt.) At the moment, the fight is still scheduled to go ahead as planned.

- The FIFA Women’s World Cup wrapped up Round of 16 play on Tuesday. Defending champs Japan scored a steady 2-1 victory over the Netherlands to advance. Next up for Japanese side? A date with the Brazil bouncing Aussies on Saturday.

- It’s a bit of a Clash-y situation in Sacramento. Should DeMarcus Cousins stay or should he go? The Kings are debating what they’re going to do with the All-Star center with rumours circulating that the Lakers have a strong interest in snapping up Cousins. Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Kings coach George Karl wants the valuable young star moved while ESPN is reporting that Sacramento’s ownership is squashing that push. We’re only one day away from the NBA Draft, so this should be an interesting couple of days. By the way, oddsmakers seem optimistic about a Lakers comeback in 2015-16. Los Angeles (purple & gold edition) are pegged as a 25/1 shot to bounce back from a lowly 21-61 record to achieve NBA title glory next summer.
