Tampa Bay vs Toronto: Red Hot Lightning Host Free Falling Maple Leafs
A light four-game slate greets bettors at William Hill as the unofficial first half of the National Hockey League schedule comes to a close tonight. Red hot, prior to a loss on Saturday, Tampa Bay looks to begin a new winning streak while Toronto aims to end a three game losing skid. The Lightning and Maple Leafs are separated by 13 points as they sit fourth and eighth respectively in the Atlantic Division standings. This NHL Eastern Conference clash is slated for 7:00 PM ET on January 27, 2016, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Look to get back to their winning ways
Following a rollercoaster ride during the first three months of the season, the Lightning were 18-16-4 at the end of December, Tampa Bay has been red-hot in the New Year. The Bolts entered January three points out of a playoff position but an 8-2-0 recent run has moved Tampa Bay into a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The winning streak included a 2-1 win over Chicago as the Lightning handed the Blackhawks their first loss after twelve straight wins. The Bolts lost for the first time in eight games as they dropped a 5-2 decision to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Buds continue a free-fall to sole possession of the NHL basement
Another season of futility continues in Toronto as the Maple Leafs 43 points is tied with Columbus and Edmonton as the lowest total in the NHL. The Buds did appear to be turning things around as they went on 6-2-0 run that started in mid-December. The winning ways didn’t last long though as the Leafs posted a dismal 1-7-1 record and were outscored by a 30-11 margin during their last nine contests. Toronto is in the bottom half in scoring and defense as their 114 goals scored is 28th and their 133 goals allowed is 19th overall. The Leafs were pasted 5-1 by the Panthers last night.
Tampa Bay vs Toronto NHL Prediction: After the Panthers pummeled the Lightning and Maple Leafs starting goaltenders, we get a battle of backups as Jonathan Bernier (6-12-3 GAA 3.13) faces Andrei Vasilevskiy (7-4-0 GAA 2.85) tonight. Although the trip from Sunrise to Tampa was a short one – Toronto is playing on back-to-back nights with travel here. That is not a good dynamic for the Leafs as they are 1-8-2 during the second of consecutive games this season. Back the Bolts with a ten-unit wager on the money line posted on the NHL betting board at the William Hill sportsbook.
