NHL Tuesday Night: Bruins Battle the Blues as Boston Hosts St. Louis

NHL Tuesday Night: Bruins Battle the Blues as Boston Hosts St. Louis
National Hockey League action is our focus tonight as Boston welcomes St. Louis to BeanTown. The Bruins are adjusting to life with their All Star defenseman while the Blues have been singing sweet music following a sluggish start to their season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on November 15, 2014, from the TD Garden, in Boston, MA.

St. Louis Blues: Bursting with confidence following slow start

After opening the 2014-14 NHL season with a mediocre 2-3-1 record, St. Louis is starting to play like the team that we predicted would challenge for the Stanley Cup. The Blues have been red hot recently as they’ve posted a near perfect 10-1-0 record since their early season stumbles. While a favorable home schedule has helped, St. Louis has won everywhere as they are 7-1 at home and 3-0 on the road during their recent run. A lock-down defense has been aided by some scoring punch as the Blues have won their last three games by a combined 14-5 count.

Boston Bruins: Hanging tough with All-Star Zdeno Chara on the shelf

When Boston lost Zdeno Chara, who is out four to six weeks with a knee injury, some predicted doom and gloom in BeanTown. The Bruins have responded reasonably well without their top defenseman as they’re sporting a 7-3 record with their hulking Captain sidelined. We say “reasonably well” because the wins were against teams with a 46-56-20 record (including division cellar dwellers Buffalo, Carolina and Edmonton) while the three losses were to opponents with a 33-18-3 record. Include St. Louis high in the latter group as the Blues rank 1st in goals against (1.9 GAPG) and 11th in goals scored while the Bruins rank 18th and 15th in those categories respectively.

Bruins vs Blues Summary and Game Day Call

While St. Louis has outscored their opponents by a 36-20 margin over their last eleven games – eight of those were decided by one goal. Though it’s difficult to be the Big Bad Bruins when you are missing a 6′ 7″ piece of the puzzle, you shouldn’t just disregard this veteran ladened Boston squad at home. Blues goalie Brian Elliott vs Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask is a formidable battle between the pipes and we expect a relatively low scoring battle here. Sensing this will be a close contest, we will happily take the goals and back St. Louis with a 500 unit wager on the puck line price posted at the Bodog Sportsbook.
