Kentucky Derby: Run For The Roses Opens US Triple Crown Racing Series

Could this be the year? Horse racing fans have been waiting a long time since Affirmed charged to victory in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and then the Belmont Stakes way back in 1973. The Run for the Roses, with it’s post-time slated for 6:24 PM ET on May 3, 2014, from historic Churchill Downs, will deliver us this year’s Championship hopeful as one of the 19 thoroughbreds will capture the first jewel in the Triple Crown.

California Chrome: Looks to turn back time in the Derby

Although it’s difficult to explain why, a California-bred horse has won the Kentucky Derby just four time in the past 139 years. California Chrome, a 3-year old chestnut Colt with white stockings and a blaze, looks to turn back time as he attempts to become the first West Coast invader to win the Kentucky Derby since Decidedly in 1962. Fourth generation relative of the great Seattle Slew, California Chrome as been ripping it up in the West with four straight wins – including a 5 1/4 length win in the Santa Anita Derby. CC pretty much has to be on your exotic tickets.

Longshots a plenty at the SportsInteraction Race & Sports Books

After California Chrome (PP #5), posted with a +194 chalk line, it’s all longshots on the SportsInteraction betting board. Wicked Strong (PP #20) is the second favorite with a +645 price, Danza (PP #4) could be the boss with a +800 price, while Intense Holiday (PP #16) and Tapiture (pp #15) round out the top five runners with +900 odds. We don’t like his PP #19 but with three time Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel onboard – take a look at Ride On Curlin. We like Samraat (PP #6) who ran second in the G1 Wood Memorial for 100 units with his +1400 ML price.
