Flyers vs Hurricanes: Slumping Squads Rumble in Raleigh

Flyers vs Hurricanes: Slumping Squads Rumble in Raleigh
Prior to posting our AFC Wild Card Weekend playoff predictions, we focus in on NHL action as SportsInteraction has a seven-game slate posted on their betting board. The Philadelphia vs Carolina contest, at 7:00 PM ET on January 2, 2015, at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, is our featured free pick tonight.

Philadelphia Flyers: Extended road trip nears an end

At first glance, seeing that Philadelphia (14-16-7) was playing the seventh of an eight game road trip, we were a little put off by this contest. Upon further review, with the Christmas break slotted in, the Flyers have only been away from home for seven days and have played three games. Philadelphia opened their extended journey with three straight wins (16-9 margin) but they are 0-2-1 since returning from the break. Philly looks to build on a decent December as they posted a winning record (6-5-4) to close out 2014. The Flyers need to begin a playoff push – sooner rather than later.

Carolina Hurricanes: Offensively challenged ‘Canes occupy NHL Eastern Conference cellar

Hurricanes? Carolina has barely been a light mist this season as they currently sit in a last place tie in the overall NHL standings with Edmonton. While they haven’t reached the half way point of their season yet, the Hurricanes (10-23-4) playoffs hopes are slim and none as they are 20 points out of the final Wild Card position in the East. Although they have been somewhat decent defensively, giving up an average of 2.62 GPG, scoring has been a huge problem for Carolina. The Hurricanes posted a 3-10-1 mark in December including ten games where they scored one goal in regulation time and they were shutout once. Our NHL futures bet on Carolina will be bankable in short order.

NHL Game Night Prediction: Slightly suspicious of what appears to be a late Christmas gift from the SIA bookmakers, we can’t see how Carolina can be giving up a puck and half here. The ‘Canes are second last averaging 1.93 GPG while Philly is 15th with 2.78 GPG. A Hurricanes shutout seems the best chance for this wager to lose. Not big on loading up on struggling squads we can’t ignore the Philadelphia puck line so give us a 650 unit wager on Philly at the SportsInteraction sportsbook.
