Bengals vs Browns: AFC North Showdown Opens NFL Week 10 Action
Early season tie has the Bengals on top in the AFC North
Though it looked problematic when it happened, and may still be, Cincinnati’s 37-37 tie versus Carolina in Week 6 has the Bengals (5-2-1) percentage points ahead of Pittsburgh (6-3) for first in the AFC North. The Cats seem to have recovered from their 27-0 Week 7 blowout versus to the Colts as they beat Baltimore 27-24 in Week 8 and then jacked up Jacksonville 33-23 last week. It’s good news that Cincinnati is at home for a third week in a row, it’s bad news that five of the Bengals last seven games will be on the road. Cinci beat the Browns 41-20 at home in Week 11 last season as they scored a blocked punt and fumble recovery TD during a 31 point third quarter.
Cleveland Browns are 5-3 but still not legit postseason contenders
Since returning to the NFL in 1999, Cleveland has attended the NFL playoff party just once as they were 9-7 in 2002 before losing to Pittsburgh in the Wild Card round. Looking for just their third winning season in 16 years, they went 10-6 but missed the playoffs in 2007, the Browns are progressing as they currently sit with a 5-3 mark. Cleveland’s 4-1 recent run looks decent on paper but, apart from their 31-10 domination of Pittsburgh in Week 6, the wins haven’t been against quality competition. Victories over the Titans, Raiders and Buccaneers, plus a loss to the Jaguars, came against teams that currently have a 4-29 combined record. This is a big test tonight.
Cincinnati vs Cleveland Call: Cleveland heads out on the road for the first time since they lost 24-6 in Jacksonville in Week 7 giving the Jaguars their only win this season. Both of these teams struggle against the run as the Browns rank 31st while the Bengals rank 30th. Although we are not overly impressed by their defense the Bengals explosive offense, that has All Pro WR A. J. Green back running routes again, will be the difference in this contest tonight.
