Astros vs Indians: Non Playoff Squads Square Off in Cleveland
It’s getting close to reality time for many teams as they watch their Major League Baseball playoff dreams fade to black. Although that’s been the case for awhile now in Houston, Cleveland still has a slim chance of making it to the postseason party. First pitch for this American League action is slated for 7:05 PM ET on August 22, 2014, from Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. We’ll back the Tribe to take the opener of this three game series.
Hot in Cleveland: Indians are still pursuing their playoff goal
Winners of seven of their last ten games, the Indians are six games behind Kansas City in the American League Central and 4.5 games out of the AL Wild Card chase. Cleveland still needs to leapfrog Detroit and the Royals for first in the AL Central plus another five teams in the WC race. After watching Detroit tank – it seems like anything is possible. Cleveland can put up numbers as they sit seventh overall in runs scored (547) and home runs (122). The Tribe recently won two series versus Baltimore and then Minnesota by a 22-14 combined six game count.
Rebuild continues as Houston will miss the MLB postseason again
After three straight disastrous seasons (56, 55 and 51 wins) Houston has had a slight turnaround this season as they currently sit with a 54-74 record. While it’s not much to write home about – there does appear to be a faint light at the end of the tunnel. The ‘Stros, who have a 10-9 record in August, head into Cleveland after a 3-1 series loss in Boston and 2-1 series win against New York. The pitching match-up, that features Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco (5-4 ERA 3.27) vs Astros RHP Brad Paecock (3-8 ERA 5.47) favors Cleveland in this contest.
