Involved in amazing playoff races, though at the opposite ends of the Western Conference spectrum, Anaheim and Calgary will battle in a postseason style contest tonight. The Ducks are tied with Nashville for first in the West while the Flames are trying to stay ahead of a hard charging LA Kings squad in the race for third in the Pacific Division. Game time is slated for 9:30 PM ET on March 11, 2015, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Alberta, CA. Align with Anaheim here.
Ducks aim to knock Nashville off shared top perch in the West
While it hasn’t been all peaches and gravy for Anaheim recently, the Ducks have pulled even with Nashville for first place in the Western Conference. With a 42-19-7 record, Anaheim is also tied with the Predators and Montreal Canadiens for first overall in the NHL. The Ducks were destroyed 5-2 at home versus Pittsburgh on Friday and then dropped a 2-1 decision in Vancouver on Monday. That mini losing streak was preceded by four wins in a row – by a 14-5 combined final count.
Calgary “Find A Way” Flames continue to blaze a path to the 2014-15 NHL playoff party
Absent from the NHL postseason party for the past five seasons, many pundits predicted a rebuilding Calgary club would make it six in a row this year. The Flames have other intentions though as they are 36-25-5 and have a tenuous tiebreaker hold on third place in the Pacific Division. The races in the Western Conference, both at the top and bottom, are going to go down to wire but a loss tonight would drop Calgary into the #9 seed and out of a playoff position.
Ducks vs Flames Final Thoughts & Prediction: After being displaced by the Tim Hortons Brier, Calgary is back home for the first time since February 20 when they lost 6-3 to the Ducks. Calgary was an impressive 4-2-1 during their seven game 14-day road trip. Anaheim is 3-0-1 versus Calgary this season including two straight 6-3 wins. Tempted by the puck line posted at William Hill, we’ll resist the need for greed and back Anaheim with a 500 unit wager on the Ducks money line here.
