Bet On Vancouver Whitecaps’ Games

Unlike other franchises that have suffered terribly during their first few years, the Whitecaps made the playoffs in their second campaign and have enjoyed moderate success since their 2011 inception. The team has grown in quality, culminating in a terrific 2015 campaign where they finished third overall and second in the western conference, advancing to the conference semis for the first time in team history. 2016 saw the side slip back to the pack and finish among the also-rans, which was a surprise result.

They again enjoyed moderate success in 2017. However, in the years since, they have finished near or dead last in their conference.  At the moment, this is not the team to bet on to win the MLS Cup.

The Whitecaps have joined in a three-sided rivalry with the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders, culminating in an annual mini competition for the Cascadia Cup. Matches between these sides are often very tough to pick as there is little between the teams. The best example is from the 2016 MLS season where each side won three and lost three at the hands of their antagonists and ended up tied on points (the cup was decided on goal difference with the Whitecaps edging out the Timbers and Sounders by one and two goals respectively).

Unless you have done some solid research and are convinced you can pick a winner, these fixtures may be ones to avoid when placing wagers. Vancouver also competes annually for the Canadian Championship, which they won for the first time in 2015. While Toronto and Montreal have dominated this competition, the format is such that the Whitecaps are always a chance.

You will normally find generous odds for the western-Canadian outfit, so this could be a good bet if you get in early. The great news is that there are always hundreds of different betting options available every matchday, so if you have done your analysis and chosen your sources wisely, you’re likely in for a winning weekend!

When Did the Whitecaps Join the MLS?

The team first joined the MLS back in 2009, some 12 years ago now going into the new season. During that period Vancouver has won Voyageurs Cup 2015, finishing runner up in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2018. They also managed to win the Cascadia Cup in 2013, 2014, and 2016. Overall the Whitecaps have performed well over the years, but struggle now that there are so many top teams entering the MLS, the likes of Inter Miami CF.
