After winning 2 Cups and making the playoffs in every single one of their first 10 seasons, the Avalanche have slowed their path of destruction. The last decade has seen them only make the playoffs 3 times in 10 years, and they only have 1 playoff series win against the Wild in 2005-2006. Still, the early days were glorious. The arrival of Patrick Roy immediately created a contender, and the Avalanche became the only NHL team (expansion or brand new) to win the Stanley Cup during their first season after moving to a new city.
They were also just the second team to win a championship their first season after a relocation in any of the four major North American sports leagues. The Washington Redskins of the NFL were the first. They have seen a number of great players over the years. This includes Roy, Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Adam Foote and Ray Bourque.

Bet On Colorado Avalanche Games
Colorado have been stuck on mediocre in a big way for a few years. Two years in a row, they won 39 games and missed the playoffs. Avalanche President Joe Sakic and coach Patrick Roy are being aggressive in making moves to improve and get back to the playoffs. But it’s not resulting in any wins as of yet.
The team hasn’t made the playoffs in back to back seasons in over a decade, and have not done it since Roy hung up his mask.
They are getting better, but so is the rest of the west, making it difficult for them to find their way into the playoffs. Without the ability to score big in the draft, they are going to have to make all the right moves and trade for the right players.
Joe Sakic and Roy obviously know what a champion looks like. But can they bring the cup back to Colorado? The Wild beat them out of a playoff spot by 5 points last year, with 87. This year, most experts believe it’s going to take much more to get to the postseason.
