LA Lakers’ Odds

Here is the next game for the Los Angeles Lakers. Location, start time and betting lines are posted in this widget. Bookmark this page and never miss any updates on the game and LA Lakers odds.

The team matches will be displayed here once available

The Los Angeles Lakers are not only one of the NBA’s most prestigious franchises, but they’re also one of the most popular brands in professional sports. However, with that being said they have been a laughing stock for the past half-decade with only one season over 30 wins in the last 5 seasons. The last time they made the playoffs was the 2012-13 season. That is until their big return in 2020, winning the championship.

But with Magic Johnson as the President of basketball operations, it was only going to be a matter of time before they made a big splash.  He has changed recently, with the LA Lakers odds to win the championship rising again.

And recently they landed the biggest name in the market, and one of the biggest names in NBA history when Lebron James signed a 4 year, $153 million contract.

Founded in 1947 in Minneapolis, the team moved to Los Angeles in 1960. The franchise has won the second-most NBA titles with 16 and has won 31 conference titles on top of 23 division crowns. All-time greats like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant have played for the Lakers. King James now joins the pantheon of Laker greats and with their last NBA title having come in the 2009-10 season, Lebron will look to restore them to prominence.

LA Lakers’ Standings

See how the Los Angeles Lakers stack up with the rest of the league in the table below. Conference and division standings are listed. “GB” stands for games behind the first place. These standings will have a direct effect on the LA Lakers Championship odds.

Bet On LA Lakers’ Games

Whenever an NBA Franchise undergoes a seismic shift the way the Lakers have this offseason it’s best to take a wait and see approach. And so far the addition of King James has made them very relevant with regards to public appeal, but what will it mean from a betting standpoint?

Over the past 3 NBA seasons both the Lakers, without Lebron, and Cavaliers, with Lebron, have been two of the worst NBA teams against the spread covering 47% and 45% of their games. So how will this impact the Lakers if at all? Lebron, being the marquee name, and the Lakers being the marquee team will both draw lots of public action.

Bookmakers respond to this betting behaviour usually by increasing the odds, or “inflating” the lines. And so far it looks like that is what has been happening as through Lebron’s first 13 games in purple and gold the Lakers have gone 4-9 ATS. The odds for the Lakers to win the Championship will also be affected by this.

There will always be an adjustment period when an entire team overhauls the way the Lakers’ have. So definitely monitor the improvements the Lakers make as the season progresses. Either one of two things occurs. Either they climb their way to 50% in terms of covering spreads or they maintain this pace and become a team that you automatically fade. The lines will maintain as long as public money continues to flow in on them. That’s until the public catches or until the Lakers improve.

With regards to totals, the Lakers are seeing some of the highest posted over/ unders in the NBA this season. This is due to the sentiment that they are not committed to playing defence combined with the fact that thus far they are one of the top 5 NBA teams in terms of pace. This leads to more possessions per 48 minutes. However, as these totals have been inflated as well, there are no signs yet that there is value to be had one way or the other at this early junction in the season.

Golden eras: Basketball seems to be a sport suited to dynasties and long runs of success to which the Lakers organization is no stranger. When Phil Jackson was hired to coach young stars, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant before 1999-2000 it wound up taking them over the top as they went on to win 3 straight NBA Championships. The relationship between Kobe and Shaq eventually turned sour and Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat in 2004. The next few seasons were without reward but Kobe Bryant’s ascension to becoming one of the all-time NBA greats culminated with back to back titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Celtics rivalry: Made iconic by the rivalry between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson in the late 80s, the Lakers’ rivalry with the Boston Celtics is one of the most storied in sports. The two franchises are the winningest in NBA History, having combined for 33 NBA titles. The two have met in the NBA Finals a total of twelve times with the most recent coming in 2010. The Celtics hold a 9-3 edge overall.
