Nunes vs Rousey Round Betting Round Up

Nunes vs Rousey Round Betting Round Up
UFC 207 is the UFC's final event of the year and features the return of former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey who is set to reclaim her title following a year-long hiatus. Standing in her way (FRI. DEC. 30, 2016 10PM/7PM ETPT) is Amanda Nunes, the new champ.

She’s back! The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion was once on an unstoppable run until being shockingly derailed by Holly Holm back in UFC 193 last year. Since her defeat, Rousey has laid low and all but avoided every opportunity to keep the public up-to-date on what is going on with her. The judoka looks as focused as ever and ready to reclaim her belt but the new champion Amanda Nunes won’t be a pushover as she looks to make it five consecutive wins with Rousey being her biggest scalp ever.

Ronda Rousey’s Latest UFC Betting Results

Before her defeat, Rousey was the closest thing to a “sure bet” in MMA. Despite being a “one-trick pony” in the eyes of many, she finished all but one of her opponents in one round most via the armbar. She first competed at featherweight (145) but dropped down to 135 to challenge Miesha Tate for her Strikeforce bantamweight title. Now Rousey is coming back from a loss, a spot she’s never been in before.

Rousey retired from judo at 21 following the Olympics. While she was training in judo, she came across many MMA gyms and trained alongside the likes of Manvel Gamburyan and Karo Parisyan. Even as a teen, her prowess was noticeable as Gamburyan and other fighters believed she would “kill all these girls in MMA”. After the 2008 Summer Olympics, Rousey transitioned to MMA full-time and made her amateur debut in 2010. Following three consecutive submission wins, Rousey eventually turned pro.

Ronda Rousey's UFC Betting Odds

Rousey made her pro debut in 2011 against Ediane Gomes, a pioneer in the sport and made quick work of her. Following a victory against Charmaine Tweet, she debuted with Strikeforce and again blitzed through the competition earning a shot against Miesha Tate. Rousey dropped down to her division and submitted her in what was her longest fight at the time. After defending against former champion Sarah Kaufman, Strikeforce was absorbed by the UFC and Rousey was promoted to the promotion’s first-ever female champion and became the main reason as to why women fighters are now in the UFC.

Despite her devastating loss to Holm, Rousey still opened as a sizable favorite over Nunes. She opened at -210 but has been bet up to -150. Her winning by submission at plus money is mighty tempting and Nunes’s only submission loss came via armbar though it was her first ever professional MMA bout. Nunes opened at +160 but has been bet down to +120. The new champion is arguably Rousey’s most dangerous foe capable of ending fights on her feet with her savage Muay-Thai or on the ground where she is a brown belt in judo and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

There are a lot of questions about Rousey’s state-of-mind.While she appears determined to get her belt back, she has also hinted at retirement. Having one foot out the door seemingly while being on a long layoff can be detriments to a fighter. Meanwhile, Nunes has been red-hot and has the momentum on her side.

Both Rousey and Nunes are fast starters with Rousey having only gone beyond the 1.5 marker once while Nunes has only twice in her six UFC contests.
