NHL Playoff Predictions: Penguins vs Senators Game 2
NHL Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 Review
If you had told us that Pittsburgh would have four first period power plays and trail 1-0, during the opening frame of Game 1 of the East Final, we would have written that off as crazy talk. That was the case however as the Penguins lost home ice advantage to Ottawa when the Senators scored a 2-1 OT victory in the Steel City. Despite almost seven minutes with an extra attacker, Pittsburgh outshot Ottawa by just a slim 8-6 count during the first twenty minutes of the East series opener.
Give the Sens their due though as they smothered the potent Pens offense and moved their record to 6-1 during OT contests in the 2017 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. The perpetual defensive pressure applied by Ottawa, creating a 32-27 edge in hits that favoured the Senators, lead to 17 Pittsburgh giveaways in Game 1. The Canadian Crew frustrated and stifled Sidney Crosby & Co. for the vast majority of the match and the Sens ended up posting a 35-28 shot advantage to get a leg up.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Ottawa Senators Game 2 Preview and Prediction
Sensing the Penguins may still be short a little flight, after eliminating archrival Washington, we stayed away form the puck price and backed the Pittsburgh money line in Game 1. Out driving around, doing Saturday softball diamond chores, yours truly could see how pitiful the Pens power play was – while listening to the radio and without a screen in sight. The Pen giveaways were the direct result of running into a brick wall at either the center ice line or the Ottawa blue line.
We kept waiting for Scott Stevens, Ken Daneyko and Scott Niedermayer to jump off the Senators bench as the New Jersey Devils stifled the Penguins during a 2-1 OT NHL playoff win way back on May 22, 1995. We have not disrespected the Senators but we may be lacking a little in giving full credit where credit is due. Except for the penalties, Ottawa hit the ice at the Igloo with a perfect game plan. The Sens stonewalled the Pens as they held them to an 0-5 man advantage mark.100 Units Pittsburgh -1.5 (+155) Puck Line ( William Hill
Can Ottawa carry a carbon copy of their play into Game 2? Craig Anderson stopping 27 of 28 shots would certainly help that cause. That said, we can’t imagine the Penguins going 0-5 on the power play again – though they may not get as many chances after Ottawa only had two during Game 1. The bookmakers at William Hill haven’t backed down as they have the Penguins posted as thick chalk with a (-210) money line again tonight. Pittsburgh is also -1.5 (+155) on the puck line and the game total is set a 5 goals with -145 Over and +125 Under odds. Expecting a Pens rebound, we are backing Sidney Crosby & Crew with a 100 unit wager on the William Hill puck line price here. We also have a 50-unit parlay wager on the Penguins and the goal total going OVER on this contest.
Odds To Win The NHL 2017 Stanley Cup Futures Update
Somewhat surprisingly, the Canada Sports Betting 2017 Stanley Cup futures board has shifted once again. Despite their Game 1 loss, Pittsburgh has climbed back on to the top perch with a (+210) NHL title price. Ottawa is now at their lowest value of the playoffs as their pre Eastern Conference Final series odds dipped from (+500) to (+300) heading into their Game 2 contest. Those numbers will shift dramatically, in the Canadian Crews favour, if Ottawa sweeps Pittsburgh in the Steel City.
Although the 5-3 final score looks impressive, the Ducks were not the better team during their Game 2 win over Nashville. The Predators dictated the play for much of the match, outshooting Anaheim 33-27, but the SoCal Crew made the most of their chances. William Hill downgraded Nashville slightly (+188 to +225) while Ducks lost value as their (+500) Stanley Cup futures after Game 1 dropped to (+350) following their win at the Honda Center. Game 3 will be huge.
