NFL Sunday Night Football Week 3

NFL Sunday Night Football Week 3
Will the NFL balance of power continue to shift to the AFC West? Week three Sunday night football explodes on September 24th, with an 8:30 PM EST kickoff between the Raiders (2-0) and the Redskins (1-1). Oakland travels to FedEx Field after a successful home opener over the New York Jets, clashing with a Washington squad which barely squeaked by the Los Angeles Rams last week.

NFL Sunday Night Football

Tough to imagine an NFL team with more confidence and swagger than the Oakland Raiders. With pivot Derek Carr back to full strength, Marshawn Lynch will have plenty of chances to dance up a storm on the sidelines. Their 45-20 dismissal of the Jets showed dominance on both sides of scrimmage. Kirk Cousins stepped up when needed, saving his squad from a last-minute loss which would have left Washington in an unfavorable 0-2 bind.

A win against the Raiders would maintain their position atop the NFC East, which has opened up due to the struggles of the Cowboys and Giants.

The Oakland Raiders farewell tour appears ready to romp around the NFL. Washington doesn’t have the personnel to defend against Oakland’s elite offense, while the Raiders defense appears to have found an aggressive edge via the blitz.

Washington’s at home, which reduced the spread to 3.5. Oakland looks like one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL, so the Raiders should be able to beat the spread. Both teams score the football with ease, which makes an over bet on 55 points a solid wager.

Oakland Raiders at Washington Redskins Preview

Washington has won the past two meetings against the Raiders, with a winning margin of more than two touchdowns. But they haven’t seen a Raiders team like this since Rich Gannon lead the franchise to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII.

After a decade-plus of futility, including the nadir of the Dennis Allen years, Oakland finally gathered the talent expected of a rebuilding team. Mack, Carr and Cooper have transformed into players worthy of Pro Bowl consideration, which looks great on the scouting department.

The Raiders front office made wise choices, beginning with the hire of coach Jack Del Rio. Instead of resting on the strength of a few good draft picks, they signed Michael Crabtree and goaded Marshawn Lynch out of retirement. Crabtree returned to the 1,000-plus yards mark, developing terrific chemistry with Carr. Lynch has proven naysayers wrong – he’s still a beast on the rush, looking rested instead of rusted after a year off.

Washington rocked a 6-3-1 record after a week 11 win against the Packers. They ended the season with a 8-7-1 mark, slumping themselves out of the playoffs. This team hasn’t recovered their early 2016 swagger at all, barely escaping Los Angeles with a 1-1 record. Washington was only 4-4 at home last season, losing their last two home games in 2016 and their home opener in 2017.

Kirk Cousins hasn’t been getting the protection he needs from his offensive line this season. He was sacked four time by the Philadelphia Eagles, and twice by the Los Angeles Rams. Kirk should be credited for stepping up and throwing a TD when needed last week, but he’s averaging only 209.5 passing yards this year. Passing under constant pressure is one of the most difficult tasks you can ask your pivot, and Cousins can only do so much on his own. Without protection, he won’t top his career best 101.6 passer rating this year.

The Oakland Raiders should dominate the Redskins because the secondary, and by extension the pass rush, improved since last season. Oakland boasts a better QB, rush and receivers too, making it unlikely that Washington will win on Sunday night.
