NFL Sunday Night Football

NFL Sunday Night Football
NFL Sunday night football kicks off at AT&T Stadium, with an 8:30 PM EST matchup between the Dallas Cowboys (13-3) and the New York Giants (11-5). Last year, the Giants were the only team who had Dak Prescott’s number, frustrating the outstanding rookie during two 2016 meetings. Two of three Dallas losses were against New York, a trend which will need to change if they hope to repeat as NFC East champs.

NFL Sunday Night Football Week 1 Predictions

The NFL crafted a superb schedule for Sunday night football in 2017, beginning with a crucial match between two favorites in the NFC East. Dallas and the New York Giants will battle for divisional supremacy all year, which makes this week one game more important than usual. A loss for either team could be the difference between making the playoffs and watching them on TV.

These two squads will play on primetime Sunday three times this year. The Giants visit the Denver Broncos and the Washington Redskins in week six and twelve, while the Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles in week 11, and visit the Oakland Raiders in week 16.

  Money Line

The Dallas Cowboys are listed as slight favorites to win in week one Sunday night football, partly fueled by the courts prevention of Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension. This drama obscures the fact that the New York Giants defense completely shut down Elliott and Prescott twice in 2016.

New York added Brandon Marshall and touted prospect Evan Engram as targets for Eli Manning, but the offense will remain middling at best until the offensive line sorts itself out.

Expect a low scoring game and bet under on point totals. Bet against a 4.5 spread on behalf the Cowboys. The winning team won by less than a field goal twice, so you expect a similar outcome regardless of who wins. Take the Giants moneyline of +170 for a decent payout on a strong team.

New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys Preview

The New York Giants beat the Dallas Cowboys twice in 2016 for a single reason: defense. Their brand-new defense held the opposition to only 284 points last season, second-best in the league after the Patriots. New York allowed the fourth least yards gained in rushing, and only 10 running TDs. Despite finishing bottom third in yards allowed via passing, the Giants ceded only 15 TD in the air, second-best to the Denver Broncos incredible secondary. Dallas scored 26 points in two matchups, but was top-five offensively the rest of the season.

Good thing the Giants know how to play D, because their offense was a trash heap outside of Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning. In fact, they scored only 30 points during their wins against Dallas, averaging a two-point margin of victory, which is about as close as it gets in the NFL. Overall, New York finished with the seventh-least points in the NFL, and the fourth-least number of yards gained on the rush. Giants passing was about league average, mostly because of Beckham and Manning.

Beckham’s 50/50 for this game after getting popped in the ankle during the preseason, but Brandon Marshall should be able to handle more targets if Odell doesn’t suit up. Despite the injury to Beckham, predicting the performance of the Dallas offense may be more difficult. Rookie of the year Dak Prescott will need to fend off defenses which have had a year to plan against his offense, and the Ezekiel Elliot drama presents an unwanted distraction for the Cowboys offense, even if a court order ensures he’ll play all season.

This should end up turning into a low-scoring, defensive battle, which is the type of game that favors the Giants. Dallas wants to charge out of the gates all cylinders firing, proving Prescott and Elliott ready for another superb season in 2017. New York will focus on playing the perfect road game, slowing the pace, dominating possession and preventing big plays that get the crowd roaring. The Giants have a great chance to upset the Cowboys on their own turf partly because New York’s game plan focuses on the basics.
