Manchester United vs Tottenham Odds, Prediction and Live Score

Manchester United vs Tottenham Odds, Prediction and Live Score
Sunday's meeting between Tottenham and Manchester United looks to be the best match of the Premier League weekend. Spurs have made a good account of themselves recently while Manchester seem to be stuck in neutral. Can they accelerate their season against an in form Spurs?

One might ask why Manchester United are dropping so many points. At least 1 reason are these pesky Europa League fixtures on Thursdays. Here are their domestic results thus far in the match right after 5 Europe League group games:

  •  Loss  (3-1 at Watford)
  •  Draw  (1-1 at home to Stoke)
  •  Loss   (4-0 at Chelsea)
  •  Win  (3-1 at Swansea)
  •  Draw  (1-1 at home to West Ham)

Other than Chelsea who are in first place the other teams are 9th, 11th, 17th and 20th. After Europa League games, United are 1-2-2 with a goal differential of -4 against primarily bottom half opposition. This competition has crippled teams for years, and now United are paying the price that may ultimately end up costing them a shot at Champions League football next season.

And keeping that dreary record in mind Jose Mourinho has to get a gameplan and squad ready less than 72 hours after playing 90 minutes in the frigid Ukraine. Spurs, on the other hand, have spent the last 3 weeks in London. They have not had to get on any planes. They got to sleep in their own beds every night, and now with a spring in their step they head to Old Trafford Sunday playing their best football of the season.

Manchester United vs Tottenham Odds on BET365

Spurs are showing signs of what made them a great team last season. United have not yet indicated that they can compete with England’s elite.

Several factors favor the visiting side on Sunday, primarily the eye test an overall form. Spurs dominated league leaders Chelsea at their stadium even though they wound up losing that game. They followed that up by beating their next two opponents 5-0 and 3-1. And most importantly for Spurs, arguably their two best players, Harry Kane looks to be the danger man again and Toby Alderweireld has returned from injury solidifying their defense.

Manchester United are struggling to get results against weaker opposition and now have to face what is possibly an elite side on 2 days rest after fielding their first team for a December game in the Ukraine. Too many positives checks for Tottenham and too many negative checks for the Red Devils; I’m recommending a 1-2 Unit play on the Spurs this weekend.

#FreeMkhitaryan

Other than Paul Pogba’s lack of brilliance thus far, the biggest cause of anxiety for Manchester United supporters was what appeared to be the blackballing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan by Jose Mourinho. It was beginning to feel eerily similar to what Mou did to Kevin de Bruyne and Andre Schurrle at Chelsea. Or what happened with Shinji Kagawa and Alex Ferguson previously at Manchester. Mkhitaryan was on course to be another Bundesliga sensation that flopped in England.

But all those fears may have been put to rest on Thursday as the midfielder built on a couple of good domestic showings by scoring a sublime goal in Odessa on Thursday. Playing on a slushy surface with what can be a very slow moving United lineup, Mkhitaryan ran through the Zorya Luhansk team with the grace and flare that made him such a coveted summer signing. Jose may have just found his x-factor, and he may be Tottenham’s biggest worry come Sunday.
